Default Extension of stay by visiting Canada

My parents have a 10 year multiple entry visa. But it is a visitor's visa which is valid only for 6 months for each visit. They came here in march, and the I-94 expires on sept.

They would like to stay longer in the US. Is it possible to get a new extension of the I-94 by going to Canada and coming back into the US? Can they get a canadian visa in the US, visit canada during labor day and get a new I-94 so they can stay for 6 more months?

    Thanks for your input.

A visitor's visa is intended for short visits and not long-term stay. The VOs know this and they might not give them the full 6 months I-94 or no I-94 at all (meaning no admission).

There has been a few threads that talk about this. Please search.

This is my opinion and I am, by no means, trying the keep your parents from trying.

No new I-94s for Canada visits. Flagpoling is a well known concept for CBP.

Default Avoid crossing border to Canada for I-94 extension

Canadian Govt is discouraging people who are visiting US who wanted to apply for a Canadian Tourist visa. Don't take it as a chance to extend the I-94 which is impractical now.
