Applied for advance parole, but leave before receiving

Hello,
I have to apply for advance parole in order to travel outside.
My problem is that I have to leave US urgently but I am afraid that I won't be able to receive advance parole by that time.

Is it possible that I apply for advance parole while in the US, and then leave US before receiving advance parole?
I am thinking that I can receive advance parole while outside the US.

Is it possible?

You have to be present in the US at the time of approval for the AP to not abandon your green card.
