H1 extension and travel

I'm in the US on H1B visa valid till April 09. The company that I'm working for has decided to file for an extension on Jan 10 09.
I need to travel to India due to some problems in Feb mid 09.

Is it good to travel while the extension is pending ? What should I do to avoid any problems ?

Not a good idea to travel. Many lawfirms advise against it. Go for premium processing or return and have the extension filed with the new I-94.
