Staying outside the US

I am presently a green card hold and going to complete 5yrs. with a continuous stay all thru and become eligible to apply for citizenship in
June,09.

My query is that as a green card holder or citizen of USA, can I go out of the usa for 9 months every year due to personal reasons. What are the disadvantages. Will I lose my status in usa as green card holder or citizenship holder because my stay will be ONLY 3 MONTHS EVERY YEAR. Otherwise, I will have to cancell my green card and go for conversion to vistor's visa. Will it be conversion of status from green card hold to visitor's visa holder or have to apply fresh for visitor's visa. Can I apply for visitors visa immediately after cancelling the green card or after becoming citizenship holder, Pls.reply with details information for action.

If you go out too much while on greencard, that may be a problem. Read

After you become US citizen, you can go out as much as you like.

After becoming a citizen, can I go out of usa FOR 9 MONTHS EVERY YEAR. Any disadvantages in social securtiy benefit or medicare,etc.

You can go out as much as you like. As long as you have worked 10 years or more in the US, it is no problem. If you go out after becoming 65 years of age, there may be other consequences such as Medicare is covered only in the US and not overseas etc.

I am a senior citizen and have not worked in US. Will there be problem of cancellation of citizenship if I go out for 9 months every year out of usa.

Then, there is no problem at all. You can stay out of the US as long as you like.

You don't have to worry about Social Security/Medicare as you are not going to get any of that any way.
