  • Travel after filing OPT

    Hi,

This is related to my previous post "F2 visa". I have recently come to know that it is 'unadvisable' to travel outside US after filing in for OPT (before getting the EAD card), even if you are re-entering US before u officially graduate, is that true ?

To be more specific, I will be applying for OPT starting 3rd August, and that will be my graduation date. I am travelling to India and will return on 24th June, more than a month before I graduate. However my I-20 will show I have applied for OPT and I will not have the EAD card as it takes atleast 3 months for it to be processed. So is this a big risk I am taking ?

Has anyone does this kind of thing before ? Please let me know as now I am kind of worried.

    Thanks,
    Anandb

As long as you have valid F1 visa, there is no restriction in traveling after applying for OPT
