Default Few questions about medical insurance for students from the UK

    hi

i am going to VT to study for the fall semester this year and i have a few questions

im from the uk so i have a j1 visa. what is best insurance to get the student one or the j1/j2 one? i was looking on the website http://www.insubuy.com and they both seem quite similar. i guess that the deductable being wavied on the student insurance means you dont pay anything if you go to the student health centre?

also say i fall and break my arm how much would it roughly cost to have it fixed?

if semi-minor things cost hundreds to thousands of dollars then i would be cheaper to fly back to the uk and have it fixed here for free.

    Thanks

From you posting, it is not clear which plans you are referring to.

If you are on J1, please look at http://www.insubuy.com/j1-visa-health-insurance/ You can buy any of the plans listed there.

If you have any specific questions after looking at them, please feel free to post them here.
    Thanks & Regards

    apologies for it being unclear.

yes that is what I was looking at as well as http://www.insubuy.com/international...cal-insurance/

The ones you are looking at are for international student full time studying in USA, such as on F1 visa. Therefore, if you are going to take full time classes, you can buy any of those plans. Otherwise, you can't.

    Please clarify.
    Thanks & Regards

bad news, i have the requirements here now and it needs mental coverage.

___ 1. The plan must offer adequate provider care within a 50 mile radius of campus of enrollment.
___ 2. Deductibles should be no more than $300 per accident or sickness.
___ 3. Major Medical benefits of at least $50,000 per insured per policy year
___ 4. Exclusions for pre-existing conditions may be no more restrictive than the following: Pre existing means: (1) a condition that manifests itself during the six month period immediately preceding the covered person’s effective date
under the policy, or (2) for which medical advice, diagnosis, care or treatment was recommended or received within six months immediately prior to the covered person’s effective date under the policy. A pre-existing condition will be covered under the Plan once an insured has been continuously insured under the Plan for at least 12 consecutive months. There should be no pre- existing condition requirement, which excludes coverage permanently under the policy.
___ 5. Inpatient mental health care paid at least 80% for the usual and customary fees with a 25 day cap.
    ___ 6. Outpatient mental health – Minimum of 20 visits. 80% for visits 1-5, 50% for visits 6-20.
___ 7. Maternity benefits treated as any other illness under the plan.
___ 8. Offers Prescription Medication coverage (after co pays) with a minimum of $1,000 per insured per policy year.
___ 9. The policy provides a minimum of $10,000 for “repatriation of remains” or “medical evacuation” to the home country.
___ 10. Coverage is valid for one year from Aug 1 or first day of enrollment in school, and effective through the following July 31 or last day of the month of the student’s graduation.

FOR J-1 VISA HOLDERS- ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT MUST BE MET: ___ Medical benefits of at least $50,000 per accident or illness

i dont think that the the one in the link you posted are suitable. do you think i should try and find one that covers it all or should i take some other insurance on top that onlycovers the mental part?

sorry for not being up to speed with this

    thanks

Please describe exactly what you do.

Are you a full time student taking classes in university?

Or are you doing some research in a lab?
    Thanks & Regards

From what you described, it looks like these are requirements are for Virginia Tech.

In that case, please look at Study USA Healthcare at http://www.insubuy.com/study-usa-insurance/

It meets all the requirements you mentioned. Of course, the insurance will start from the next day of the purchase, at the earliest. It will not start from August 1.
