Urgent: New Visitors Visa -Validity

I am planning to invite my parent to the US during May2010. I was under the impression that Visitors visa have 10 years multiple entry. So, I have scheduled an appointment for them on Oct 1st 09.

My question is, am I making a mistake by scheduling the appointment so early?

Please guide me at the earliest, I can ask them to cancel this appointment and rescheulde accrodingly if required.

If they get 10 years visa, that's OK.

If they get a shorter term visa, they will have to travel within that visa duration or the visa would be wasted.
