What Type of Visa

Dear sir/madame

I am writing to enquire about visa application. I am a recent university graduate from the UK and wish to move to the US in the fall of 2010. The information i read said that i cannot apply for a visitors visa if i plan on seeking work, but i could not see a visa option for those planning on seeking employment. I would obviously come to the country with enough money to live on for the months it took me to find a job. Do i need to have secured a job in the US before i can apply for a visa that allows me to work? . Secondly, if i did secure a job and the visa was applied for through that company what is the procedure for changing jobs, would my visa still be valid?

Any inforamtion you can give me would be greatly appreciated
