Default H1 visa validity before travel and after stamping

    Hello Friends,
    I have a few questions:
    1. When does the three year clock starts?
-the start date on the petition or the day the visa is stamped or the day when one actually enters the US?
    2. What is H1 visa validity before travel and after stamping i.e. for how long one can stay in home country after getting the visa stamped?
    3. I heard within one year of getting H1 stamped you need to travel anyhow otherwise the visa gets expired. Is this True?
    4. Referring above question 3, if one is not able to travel within one year of stamping what are the consequences...is it just the visa that gets expired or your petition too i.e. you can't go for re-stamping on the same petition?

    Thanks a lot!

Read FAQ for very basic questions.

    1. when you enter US
    2. You can stay forever after visa stamped. No rule to enter US.
    3. No
    4. You can enter US anytime as long as you have visa and job.

    Thanks for the reply.
Referring to question 4, what if the visa is stamped and the visa expiration date is set to an year and that I am not able to travel in an year...what happens in that case?
    5. Is it that the H1 visa expiration is always set after 3 years from visa-start date?

    Thanks!

Visa is given until H1 end date, which is 3 years usually.
Once visa expired, you can't travel.

    Thanks!
So that means if I go for stamping after an year, my visa validity will be for remaining 2 years and that visa-expiration date will be around H1 end date?

    Ok!
Just last one doubt, out of curiosity...
So that means in that 3 year of petition, one can go for stamping anytime but the validity of visa will be around H1 end date?

    Yes.
But in general, it's advised to go for stamping as early as possible.
