change visa status from I to h1b

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am currently living in the United States on a I visa. I was recently offered a job from an American company that requires me to change my status.

I tried to get informations on USCIS website and read that link (http://www.immihelp.com/visas/mediavisa/) but I am still very confused. Can I do it here or do I have to go back to my country of origin? Is the process simpler than requesting an H1B from scratch?

Could anybody help me in understanding better what I am supposed to do please?

I am interested in moving to the US with my family on an I visa. I would like to know about your experiences with respect to this if you are interested in discussing that.
