Default Birth certificate (B2 visa for mother and sister) - kindly advise

I am inviting my mother (widowed) and my elder sister (married, housewife) to attend my graduation ceremony in june. Here is the issue I am facing:

I am unable to locate my birth certificate. Is this mandatory to establish my relationship with my mother. As an alternative, I am hoping to use my passport entries towards this. But again, in my passport, my mother's maiden name is listed as her last name, while her passport (obtained recently) has my father's name listed as her last name.

I have been following these forums for quite a while and have learned a lot about the B2 visa procedures. Thank you all! But this particular issue is not addressed anywhere. I will very much appreciate it if someone assists me with relevant information.

    Regards.
