original birth certificate

My father was born in Qatar (then India, now Pakistan) in 1933 and I am applying for OCI. I have my father's UK issued birth certificate but I have been told that I must have a birth certificate issued from Pakistan. Can anyone confirm whether this is true and if it is possible to get the UK issued certificate validated in some way, eg from a Pakistan embassy?

Any information very gratefully received.
