Urgent - New H1b transfer before Oct 1st

I have a question and need an urgent answer due to job scenario.

I am on OPT - and my current company applied for my h1b. I got an approved petition - however there are some issues within the company now.

Can I get my H1b (which will start from 1st Oct 2010) transferd to a different company right now (as of July 2010) ?

I have heard that the visa slot of 6 years is given for a person - so would be it required to get a new visa or can the transfer be done before the visa is effective ?

Please reply as this is urgent. I am talking to an employer who is willing to transfer visa but not file for new one.

You can apply for the transfer now. However, you cannot start working for them until Oct 1st. Just give the new employer a copy of your approval notice.
