Questions for L1b visa

Hi guys,

My company has sponsored me with L1b visa and I am going to start working in the US very soon. However there are several things I am still not very clear so I hope that you could help me with some inputs.

1. I heard that one has to work with L1b visa for one year before the green card application process can be initiated (e.g, I140 filing). Is that true?

2. Suppose I get my I140 approved and am waiting to submit I485, if I change my visa type from L1b to H1b, do I need to restart the whole green card application from scratch (i.e, apply for PERM, I140 from scratch again), or the whole process won't be affected at all (i.e, I can still wait to submit my I485 as before)?

3. In general how long does it take for the I140 application to be approved?

I think if you are coming here on L1B, you also need to worry about PERM (Labor Certification). If you are coming here on L1A, then you need to correct your original post first.
