Default Filed AOS in Jan, recieved FP notification, WHAM!!

I recieved reply from the INS that my AOS was recieved on Jan 10. I also recieved notice from them in the last week in March that I have an appointment to go and do my fingerprinting on May 10.
Guess what, since then I have been informed that my co is laying me off.
    1. What are the consequences for greencard processing, seeing that I am so close to the end?
    2. My employment officially ends the end of May, can I accept other employment before the end of May?
    thanks

Where did you file for AOS? Was it with VSC, TSC, CSC or NSC?

If CSC, you may still get GC before you're laid off. Legally speaking, INS may revoke the GC because your employment is not permanent - even if you get GC before layoff. Permanent employment typically implies that you stay with your employer approx. 6 - 12 months after GC.

If other than CSC, hate to break it to you, but you had better find another job and start to apply for an H1 visa. You are back to square one. Unfortunately the 180 days rule re. AOS does not apply to you seeing that you applied for AOS on January 10th of this year. And even though you got your FP done, this has no bearing on when the case is adjudicated. Many people are still waiting since 10/1999.

Best advice - get a good immigration lawyer!
