    I don't think you become a US Citizen till you take the oath.

    I would just travel with the old passport with the visa in it provided it's not expired.

    When you become a US Citizen (during the Oath Date) they take your green card away. Therefore whether or not your visa or other passport is valid, if you are to use that passport to travel outside of the country, the airline will want to see a copy of your greencard which you don't have. Also if you try to come back to the US using your other passport without your greencard, then certainly you will not be allowed back in. I think this is why the lawyer may have mentioned that it's a complicated situation. I think for your case, it may be good to consult with another lawyer (and some do give a 30min free consult or for a very minimal fee). Good luck.
