  • What is the difference between a real estate agent and a real estate broker?

Most states require real estate sales professionals to be licensed by the state, so that they can control education and experience requirements and have a central authority to resolve consumer problems.

The terminology used to identify real estate professionals varies a little from state to state. Brokers are generally required to have more education and experience than real estate salespersons or agents.

The person you normally deal with is a real estate agent or salesperson. The salesperson is licensed by the state, but must work for a broker. All listings are placed in the broker's name, not the salesperson's.

A broker can deal directly with home buyers and sellers, or can have a staff of salespersons or agents working for him or her.

A real estate agent is a real estate professional who has taken and passed all required real estate classes and passed the real estate licensing exam in the state in which he or she intends to work. It is the most encompassing of the titles, since it is the starting point for most real estate professionals. Agents are also referred to as real estate associates.

A realtor is a real estate agent who is a member of the National Association of Realtors. To become a member, a real estate agent has to agree to abide by the association's standards and uphold the code of ethics.

A real estate broker has continued his or her education past the real estate agent level and passed the real estate broker license. Real estate brokers can work as independent real estate agents or have other agents working for them.

        Jusr terms

In many non speaking english nations locals use both terms to address a person who assist buyers in purchasing. Like in Jaipur India we use the term "Properly dealer" for a real estate broker. But definition wise a real estate agent is more like a consultant which not only help in buying but also in paperwork, interior etc and a real estate broker is a person who has some clients who wants to sell their property and then he/she connects them with buyers and get some commission which again is different region wise.

Hope I was able to assist.

To my thinking a real estate broker is a company which is connected with different real estate agencies. So if you go to a broker you will get access to the catalogues of a number of agencies. But an agency deals with clients and has its own list of properties. For instance, this is a broker https://tranio.com/ and this is an agency https://www.coldwellbanker.com/

            Real estate broker:

Real estate broker: A person who has taken education beyond the agent level as required by state laws and has passed a broker's license exam. Brokers can work alone or they can hire agents to work for them. Real estate salesperson: Another name for a real estate agent.
