Arriving Before Program Starting Date

Dear sirs,

I hold a valid F-1 visa and the programme starting date stated in the I-20 is Jan. 22, 2011.

Does it mean that I can arrive US on Dec. 23, 2010 (US time)? That is 30 days before programme starting date. I want to set off as soon as possible but I'm afraid my counting method is wrong.

As December has 31 days, that would not be 30 days. Dec 24, 2010 would be the earliest.
