Post R-1 visa with a I/D/S stamp on the I-94

Please help me with your experiences and knowlegde.

I got a R-1 visa. when I arrived to the airport, the immigration officer signed my I-94 with the following note:

    ....I....
    ..D/S

I mean, something likes this picture:

But I'm a little confused and, I want to know:

    1) What this note means on the I-94? They sign the I-94 with a limit date to stay in U.S. normally

    2) Normally when alien people apply for an "extension of stay", this procedure is applied over the "I-94" or over the "visa"?

I already got the form I must to file but I need to know this information before to do it.

Thanks in advance for your advices!

D/D means max Duration of Status authorized for the visa category you were admitted for.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.http://www.immihelp.com/visas/h1b/h1-visa-faq.html
