    Default F2 Visa For Husband

I am a Phd student(with full funding) about to graduate in November 2011 after which I'll apply for the 12 month OPT. My husband, 27, is preparing to apply for a F2 visa. He is currently working in a MNC in india. Could anyone tell me as to wether it would be appropriate for him to apply for a F2 visa or a visitors visa? We are a bit uncertain about which one of these visa categories should he apply as I only have few more months of schooling. Also, please let me know if there is any time limit within which my husband should travel to US if he is granted a visa (either category).

He can apply for either visas.
For F2 visa, he needs to show why he will return after you finish your program. He may also be asked how he will spend his time in the US as he is not allowed to work or study while in F2 status.
It may be better to apply for B2 in this case if he plans for short trips only.
Either way, I think this is risky.

If F2 Visa is approved, he can travel as long as the visa is valid and you remain in F1 status.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.
