  • US Citizen's Indian Visa Under Maiden Name

    Hi Guys,
I really appreciate this forum and have learnt a lot from it. Here is my question:

My Wife(US Citizen by birth) had the indian VISA on first passport that showed her maiden name. We( i am an indian citizen) travelled to india with that indian VISA and attended my brothers wedding (we were not married then so she got a indian visa with her maiden name).

Now She got a new US passport with her married name(My last name). Also the old US passport that has the Indian VISA is invalid(Holes punched on the passport) as she had to submit that old US Passport to get the new US Passport.

Does she need to get a brand new Indian VISA on the new US Passport with her married name?

Also i see that online on the India Visa outsourcing site ,there is a catergory for transfering VISA from old expired passport to new one...but does it include a last name change?

    Thanks Guys.

She can just carry a notarized copy of the marriage certificate to resolve the last name issue ..

Also i see that there is "Transfer of travel visa" in the indian VISA outsourcing site...does this situation qualify for that?

yes she can, but in case she loses it, then she might get into a little trouble. I'd advise carry the original as well as the notarized copy. For my mom's, they kept the copy even though it wasn't notarized. we had 2 copies of all the forms. they kept one.
