Default F1 renewal and passport expiry

I need to renew my F1 visa which expired in July 2011. I plan to fly down to India and take up a visa appointment at the US consulate (around 2nd week of December 2011) for this purpose. However I noticed that my Indian passport has an expiry date of August 2012. Will that be a problem as my passport is valid for less than 12 months from the date of visa appointment? In other words, do I need to get a fresh passport done before I take up an appointment at the consulate? I plan to fly back to my university around Jan 2012. Please advise.

    Appreciate your help.

    Thanks,
    G

That will not be a problem.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.
