Is there a dependent status on OPT ?

Hello

My husband is currently working on F1 OPT. I am currently working on L1B visa. My question is :
1. Can I be dependent on him and will I be able to change my status to F2 ? Does OPT mean F1 ?
2. If so, what is the process toI do that ? What time frame would it take for change of status?

OPT is not a separate status, it is part of F1. So you can change your status to F2.
Search for form I-539 and instructions. It takes 2 to 3 months to get a decision.
You can quit your job at any time after your file I-539. But once change of status gets approved, you must stop working immediately as F2 status does not allow work.
