How long does it take time for the whole process to get the us passport after filling the citizenship application ?

I applied for the n600 they say it will take 5 months. I cannot apply for a passport because they told me I need proof of citizenship. This is also for my minor child I am doing this for. His dad passed away one month ago I went to ssi office and they told me he needs proof of citizenshp before he is able to collect. I dont know how folks are getting passports before the coc is granted. I tried yesterday and they said I cant

Wait till you get your citizenship certificate. You will have to show your US citizenship certificate when applying for a US passport

It takes 5-6 months but depending on where you live it might be longer or shorter. You can't apply for the passport without the Naturalization Certificate.
