Default Visa interview : Can petitioner accompany the applicant

I have the vis interview scheduled for my mother in Mumbai.
I am planning to go to India, provided the consulate permits the petitioner (me) to go with her for the Interview. If not, then there is not much value addition of me going there.

Could someone please let me know if the petitioner/sponser can go with the applicant for the immigrant visa interview in IR-5 (parent of US citizen) category?

    Thank you for your time..

Yes, Make sure that you have your passport or green card with you when you go to consulate office.

Contacted Mumbai consulate via email. They say nada. Only applicant is allowed.
