  • OCI Application Part A Question

    Hello!

My father is a Canadian citizen who is currently travelling to India on vacation. He has a PIO card currently. He wanted to apply to OCI card while in India. He completed the Part A of the application, and submitted it to the local Indian authority. Now, he has second thoughts and would like to do this in Canada, as he is concerned he may not get this back on time.

Does he have to complete the process in India before he leaves (which may prolong his trip)?

When he returns to Canada, can he reuse the Part A of the application (it has a IN prefix) and submit to the consulate in Canada?

Or does he restart the application in Canada, to get a new reference number?

    Thank you!!

He should apply for OCI in India only if he lives in India, and not visiting.

He should start it all over in Canada.

      OCI in India or Canada

Anyone visiting India has all rights to apply for an OCI. In fact, it is easier to get an OCI from India than Canada. Of course, if all documents as required by Canadian jurisdiction is submitted then it is no issues getting it done in Canada.

Please do not let anyone stop you from applying in India. There are 'n' number of people from different parts of the world applying from India.

However, if he does want to get it done in Canada, he would def have to do a new part A, selecting Canada and the jurisdiction he falls under as the mission.
