F2 visa: F-1 is being expired in 2 months

I am on F-1 visa that will be expired in July-2012. My I-20 is till Dec-2012. I am still student and did not defend my PhD thesis.
I am planing to go india in April end and come back on May end on F-1. I am also planing to get married during my India trip and want to bring my wife with me on F-2.
My furture plan is to go back to country around december 2012 for good. I am worry how my f-1 that is being expire in July 2012 will affect my wife's F2 application.

Is it F1 validity or I-20 validity which decide the f2 visa? I am not willing to extend my F-1 and in future (after coming back form india). I may work on OPT for a small time (till december). I talked here in internation center at the university and no one knows definitive answer for it.
Please suggest. Its urgent.

That will not affect her application. She will get a Visa that expires on July at the most. She can travel to US anytime as long Visa is valid on the day of travel.
