Travelling on May18 on OPT & OPT experies on July24th 2012

Hello,

I am planning to travel on May 18th 2012 to India for 2- 3 weeks & come back on June 2nd week. My OPT is expiring on July 24th 2012, I am working as Consultant. My port of entry is SF.

How save is it to travel and re-entry to USA. Should I apply for OPT Extension and then go to India or come back and apply ????????

Please do let me know regarding this ASPA, as I came to know that today one of my friend's friend on OPT (working), was Deported back.???
