Is the petitioner's presence required at interview?

I am out of the country the day that my brother/brother's family is being interviewed. It is for a visa adjustment status. Am I required to be present at the interview?

First thing the IO asked me was where is my petitioner. Even though they don't ask you to bring the petitioner, they WILL ask for him/her.

It says on the interview appointment that you must take the petitioner with you.
