Visitor Visa Extension

Can I apply for my in-laws visitor Visa extension after 1 year. That means my uncle is staying here since 1 year and I would like to extend for few more months.we applied for 6 months extension after initial 6 months and got approved and we want to extend for few more months due to some personal reasons. Is it legal to apply for extension second time? I really appreciate your help in this regard. Thanks.....

2nd extension is approved in only select genuine cases ( like for people who come to US for medical treatment).
Do not apply if his reason is frivolous.

THis can have repurcussions at his next US entry. They look at your past stay and if staying in US more than a year on one visit, he can have serious issues re-entering.
