Default Period of stay in the US AFTER filing for Citizenship

I understand that one of the requirements of filing for citizenship is a physical presence in the US for half the time, from the date of getting a permanent residentship through the date of filing for citizenship.

Is there a requirement that we have to be physically present in the US for half the time, from the date of filing for citizenship through Oath taking? Are there any exceptions to this rule?
Thanks,
