Tourist Visa Extension I-539 to be folowed by I-797 approval

My parents extended their tourist visa 1998 while they were in USA by filing I-539 with prescribed fee and I-94 papers etc. On telephonic confirmation of extension of tourist visa till March 1999 from INS with out receiving the the original document my parents left USA in February 1999 itself without any problem to India. Is there any approval in I-797 has to be followed for earlier extension of tourist visa filed under I-539 so as to seek a fresh visa to visit USA now after a gap of 6 years. Appreciate if a reply to the query is provided/comments offered.

Did you receive receipt of extension filing and/or rejection/approval letter after they left? You can provide that as proof.

Thank you for your valued guidance. We have a copy of the online computer approval with receipt number of I-539 with the original receipt of Extension filing I-539. Now, I would like to know is there any procedure for geting a copy of I-797(extension approval) for the earlier period of 1998-1999 and if such proecure exists how long it will take to obtain as my parents are planning to vist for tourist visa again in June 2004.

I don't think there is any such procedure.

Even if it were there, you would not be able to get it for June 2004 appointment.
