VFS Global Service provides The Stars and Stripes Lounge, a waiting area available to visa applicants and their accompanying friends and relatives. 

The lounge has been operative in Mumbai since 2003. The lounge in Chennai opened on November 5, 2007.

Please note that the lounge is an optional service. You are not required to use it, but are recommended to use it. This service is very useful to everyone, especially those traveling to the city from other places.

You can arrive at the lounge half an hour prior to the interview time and avail the facilities provided in the lounge before you are transported to the Consulate for your appointment.

Entry coupon costs Rs. 200 per person, and everyone over the age of 5 must purchase a coupon for entry into the lounge. Lounge coupons can be purchased at the counter at VFS application centers in Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Pune. Each coupon includes a free beverage and snack voucher.

The lounge is protected by security staff, with access only to visa applicants and accompanying persons.

Entry coupon includes, at no extra charge:

1. Weather-protected, air-conditioned waiting room.
   
   Note: Security regulations don't allow visa applicants or persons accompanying them to wait in or around the Consulate.
   
   
2. A cafe coffee day counter that offers one cup of coffee/tea and a sandwich.
   
   
3. Storage area for your baggage and other items that can't be taken inside the Consulate.
   
   What is not allowed in the consulate?
   
   
4. Use of changing rooms.
   
   
5. Use of rest room facilities.
   
   
6. Return coach transfers between the lounge and the U.S. Consulate. Coaches leave the lounge every half hour. Using this service allows you to avoid the tiring wait in line and arrive fresh and attentive for the interview.
   
   
7. If the consulate is running behind in the interviews, you may also receive an update from VFS while waiting in the lounge.
   
   
8. There are TVs located in the lounge area. They generally play useful things like security measures at the consulate, demonstration of proper fingerprinting procedures, etc.
   
   

Facilities at extra cost:

1. More than one cup of tea/coffee or more than one sandwich.
   
   
2. Snack bar for refreshments and light meals.
