A normal Indian passport is usually valid for 10 years from the date of issue. However, in certain cases, as described below, the passport may be made for a short validity:

• Tatkal passport for five (5) years
  
  
• Emergency passport issued in case of lost or damaged passport or in other cases may be valid for one (1) year or less.
