Review: I arrived on June 30, 2019 and departed on July 6, 2019 Entry was smooth and easy. I arrived in the morning so I think that helped a lot. There were no lines, no waiting, no one tried to get extra money or cookies from me (something I had read in other reviews). My luggage arrived undamaged (aside from what American Airlines had done prior to my leaving the US). I got a good exchange rate at the FOREX right there in the terminal. Was able to connect to the wifi easily to let my boyfriend know I had arrived and even found a free wifi to connect to outside the terminal in the waiting area. The people standing around in the airport parking lot did, apparently, expect money (for being there) but my hosts took care of them. Departure was also quite uneventful. The flight was delayed so the small waiting area did get crowded rather quickly. We were disappointed that he couldn't come into the terminal with me (not through security). In the states, I'm used to sitting areas and even restaurants inside the airport that people can sit and visit before the person leaving has to go through security. Even for international travel, going through immigration (coming and going) was really quick and easy. Everyone was really quite friendly (to me). I'm already looking forward to my next trip in a few months. I'm actually hoping for a day time arrival, as opposed to late night, because from the reviews, they seem to go a lot smoother.

Review: My first trip to Ghana and if I based my experience on the airport facilities and staff I would never go back. Arrived in Kotoka to find that one of my bags was missing. Went immediately to the baggage claim office to be greeted by the rudest man I have ever met. If he asked me once, he asked me 50 times why I could not produce a claim ticket for my missing suitcase and could not understand why I didn't have one for a carry-on bag. He grudgingly completed (barely) a claim form (illegibly), taking 20 minutes for a task that should have taken 10. On departure day I find that there is no Business Class lounge and the only place to wait 2 1/2 hours for my delayed flight is a Handicapped area the size of my bedroom closet which is rapidly filling to capacity with others on my delayed flight. There is a small refrigerator with bottled water which the airport staff appears to regard as their own and rapidly empty, leaving none for the waiting passengers. In addition, since they appear to have nothing better to do than stand around chatting with each other, their level of boredom and curiosity rises to the level of asking my friend and me to discuss the status of our relationship in great detail. When we refused to cooperate, he left to find a more willing interviewee. Restrooms were few and far between and not well-marked, No duty-free shops, restaurants (in fact no available food, snacks, refreshments of any kind). There seemed to be major renovation of some kind going on so hopefully upon my return to Ghana next spring facilities will have somewhat improved. I'm not sure what the hiring criteria are for airport employees but they were definitely not representative of the general population of Ghana, who are the friendliest, most accommodating, most helpful people as a group that I have ever been privileged to meet. I repeat that I am most happy that I did not base my impression of the country as a whole by the actions and facilities of a few!
