The U.S. Embassy in Beijing serves the provinces of Beijing, Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Jiangxi, Ningxia, Qinghai, Shandong, Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Xinjiang.

Since the U.S. Embassy in Beijing serves only nonimmigrant visas, immigrant visa applicants should apply at the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou.

Area Details

The U.S. Embassy in Beijing is located in the Liangmaqiao diplomatic area in Chaoyang District. It is surrounded by An Jia Lou South to the south, Tian Ze Road to the east, Liangmaqiao Bei Xiao Jie to the north, and Dong Fang East Road to the west.

South of the U.S. Embassy are the Embassies of South Korea, Republic of India, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, and Israel.

It is located near Laitai Flower Market, opposite to the Kempinski Hotel and Lufthansa Shopping Center.

Getting There

The nearest subway location is the Liangmaqiao stop on line #10.

U.S. citizens and visa applicants should use the Embassy’s east gate to enter the Consular Section, which is located at the Tian Ze Road Intersection of An Jia Lou Road, close to Ladies’ Street (Nuren Jie).

At the Embassy

On the east gate, there are three sections: the right one for nonimmigrant visa applicants, the middle one for American Citizen Services, and the left one for immigrant visa applicants.

Once inside, you will get the appointment verified first. After that, you will go through the security check. After that, you will cross the bridge and enter the main building area. The waiting area for submitting application materials is near windows 15 to 23. You will submit applications at windows 12 to 23. To the left of that is the fingerprinting waiting area, opposite to windows 10 to 11 for fingerprinting. On the left of that is the interview waiting area, opposite to windows 1 to 9 for interviewing.

Work Hours: 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Monday, Tuesday, Friday except for public holidays. On Wednesday and Thursday, only morning hours.

U.S. Citizen Hour

If you are a U.S. citizen and have any questions regarding nonimmigrant visa inquiries or processes (of course for someone else), you can be present at the U.S. Embassy’s east gate (consular section) between 4:00 PM and 4:15 PM with your U.S. passport. You can meet with Nonimmigrant Visa Unit staff on the same day between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

Such meeting sessions are meant for informational purposes only and not for submitting a visa application or to re-adjudicate a prior visa refusal.
