I used to send money to India through Citibank and now in retrospect, I realize how bad their exchange rates were. Later I switched to SBI to get much better rates. Now I have been sending money with IndusInd and Ria Money Transfer. IndusInd is slower in speed but has awesome rates, while Ria has a decent rate and money gets to India quickly. However, you can only send up to $2999.

I previously did not know about IndusInd and Ria Money Transfer, and came across them on RemitFinder. This site compares money transfer companies and I found it really helpful. I also created a rate alert that keeps me updated with exchange rate changes daily.
