L1A Blanket Reject followed by L1B Individual
Hi All,
I would first like to thank immihelp that helped a lot to prepare for my Visa Interview and even documentation work. My visa experience and suggestions are as follows:
My company had earlier filed L1A Blanket petition. As this was blanket petition there was not much work needed on the documentation. I had appeared for Visa Interview with my wife and Kid. As most of you must have known by this time that if you are travelling with Kid you are prioritized and are not needed to wait in Queue!!
This may sound good and relieving but for me this was a kind of shock as you dont get enough time to adjust with that kind of environment and feels as if you are being rushed for the Visa Interview,
Not sure if this is the case with all but with me even after knowing that we will be prioritized we didnt expect to land in front of VO so fast. I was not even prepared with all my documents that i kept in the folder!!

L1A Visa experience - Aug 2017 in Chennai:
Me: Hello GM
VO: GM. Please give me your passport and documents
Me: Handed over required docs
VO: So do you work for XYZ?
Me: I work for ABC (Yes he misunderstood my company.)
VO: Ok. Which Visa have you applied for?
Me: L1 A
VO: What do you manage?
Me: Answered in one line. " I manage xyz product for my company.........some more details .."Then there was pause of 4-5 secondsVO: Where will you be staying in US?
Me: Answered both City and State
VO: What is your salary?
Me: answered . ( comfortably above 100K)
VO: How many direct and indirect reportees in US and India?
Me: One in India and none in US
VO: Took a gap of around 4-5 secs and was continously typing on Computer. Then handed over blue slip and mentioned that " Sorry I cannot approve your visa at this moment. L1A visa has very narrow scope fro approval. Please check with your HR and file in appropriate category!!!

what went wrong? My response for Question " What do you manage?"
I should have answered more confidently and in atleast 2-3 sentences instead of 1 sentence
But the Killer was that i had no reportees in US and had just one in India. This was last question VO before handing over blue slip.
Post discussion with Immigration consultant and HR they decided to file in L1B individual.(Specialized skills due to technical nature of work)
As this was individual petition had worked a lot on answering the questions in detail, with evidences etc. I took almost 5 months to prepare my petition due to busy office schedule!!
After preparation i got it reviewed from HR and got some feedback and also sample Petition letter. My petition was filed under premium processing and got it approved in 15 days with out any RFE.
Tips for Individual Petition:
1. Give as much relevant details as possible.
2. High chances of approval if you have more than 7-8 exp in company and also
3. Provide some digrams/Flow chart, Table etc for better presentation. This also shows confidence.

VO: With some smile.Give me your passports only.
Me: Handed over passport.
VO: Why do you want to go to US?
Me: Answered in 1 -2 lines,
VO: Asked for approved petition - I 797,
Me: Done
VO: Started typing on Computer...After 2 mins whom will you report to?
Me: Answered.
VO: After 2-3 mins continuously typing on Computer. Golden words" Your Visa is Approved"
