Hello,
I want feedback from people in case anyone applied for passport renewal in Jan 2019. I applied for reissue on 8th Jan and from 9th Jan it is under process at the consulate. I am planning to travel to India during mid-Feb and have to schedule a visa appointment as well for its reprinting. I really need to get the passport by 30th Jan.

Does anyone have applied for a passport during the same time and received any update?

Thanks!

Sharing my experience

Passport with embassy since Dec 20,2018. Traveling in last week of Jan. Not received the passport yet.

Called the embassy on 14th Jan and got the following response. Due to technical upgrades, passports are being printed in India. Indian embassy in SFO will only respond to your passport query, if the service has been delayed by more than 21 days after the passport reaches the consulate.

Got an update yesterday that passport has been printed in India and is on the way to SFO.

But you can try your luck and call this emergency helpline - (415)-483-6629 or email [email protected]. Mention "urgent" in the subject of the mail. Keep your passport number handy.

Thank you Saikat12002!
Yes, I called them and they asked me to mail the details. But I am not sure whether they will reply to it.

Regarding scheduling of visa appointment, I am also in the same boat. But there is a work around that customer care of ustraveldocs suggested me and I have taken the same path. You can fill DS-160 using your old passport number, pay the fees and schedule the appointment now. Once you receive the new passport, create one more DS-160 with the new passport details, submit it. Then go to your profile in ustraveldocs.com and update DS-160 number with the new one. Print appointment confirmation again and check that it has new DS-160.

This is really helpful. I was very much worried about this part. I will also call them to inform about my situation and proceed in the same a way.

Thank you!

Got the new passport. Created new DS-160. Worked with ustraveldocs customer care representative to update DS-160 and get the new appointment confirmation.

Thank you @saikat12002. Your response was really helpful. I called the number you provided but they just gave what seemed like a standard response - Email us your enquiry and we will look into it

I am on a really tight deadline here and I need my passport by 8th February. Its under process since 18th January at the SF Embassy. From the comments in this post it looks like most people got it within 3 weeks.

My question is do these people respond to the email inquiries and would they expedite the process in case of urgency?

Mine was reached the SF consulate on 9th Jan and I am waiting for it as well. Even I am planning to travel to India during Feb and have to schedule a visa appointment. I called and emailed them and they said the same thing that printer is not working, hence it is getting delayed. But, I didn't get any response through email though.

My passport reached SF consulate on 26th Dec 2018. I did not get any response till Jan 10th 2019 from the consulate. I went to consulate to inquire about the status as I have flight on 25th Jan 2019. They said that the printer is not working. So they are getting passports printed in India. They did not get back the passports for the application which were before me. They are totally helpless and they don't know the estimate. They said that I will not be able to get passport in next 5-6 weeks. So I was told to withdraw my application. I did that and got back my old passport. I have to fight now for refund because they are not giving back money.

In my case, embassy said that your passport had been printed in India and is on the way to SFO. I received the passport early next week.

Yes, mine is a little different. They didn't send it to India. I called them yesterday and they mentioned that the printing has started here. I will receive by next week. Hoping to get it by next Friday.
