My wife appeared for F2 visa interview on May 6th in Chennai

VO: Can I have both of your I20?
Wife hands over both the I20 forms.
VO: What is he studying there?
Wife: MBA
VO: Which university?
Wife: Arizona State University
VO: So how will you manage your expenses? Is your husband working there?
Wife: I have my savings, as well as my husband, has some saving and hands over both her and my bank statements. My husband also has a GA there.
VO: What is GA?
Wife: Graduate Assistantship
VO: Sorry, your visa has been rejected. And hands over the form stating denial under section 214(b).

Can anybody tell me or guide me what would have been the possible reason for denial?

Your wife couldnt show a strong connection to return to India .Hence this scenario as you are already in usa

Hi kenshai112,
Thanks for the reply. I understand the reason given in form 214(b), but what can we do to show that she has the intention of coming back? She has a family, career, savings but nothing was asked. What can we change before reapplying?

I applied for my wife and son while i was studying . She got 6 times rejection. I think the main reason i got rejected was the sponsor. Thoughi had saving I was havong income othe than a teaching asstant job that pays very meagre. I had showed my saving, my father and even my wife father still they rejected her. from this experiece i learned that they may want to have a job in usa so they have some concrete reason that spouse can sponsor you as hi has income. I am on CPT now and now taken dates for visa but still thinking to wait to start OPT before i apply for visa for my son and wife.

The main reason what i feel is sponsor for rejection. If your husband has got visa than he has already proved that he has ties.

Do you think that showing that her family is covering all the expense and then show her mother's financial will help?

The fact that your husband is a GA it means he is getting paid and according to the Consular and the way they apply U.S laws, it implies his financial ties are not strong and you being the spouse who would be on F2 that counts for you as well. Sometimes say less than what asked. Do not open Pandora's box. [email protected]

Hey Bladi,
Thanks for your inputs. I think we should have hired an expert for her visa interview preparation, we will do it next time. Now our concern is whether it's advisable to reapply for F2 or try for visitors visa. Will the change in visa category cause further complications for us?

Hey Bladi,
We are thinking of applying in another category this time? What's your thought?
