Can we use the Passport picture taken for US passport for Indian passport renewal as well since that is also 2 X 2 or is there any difference between both ?

My passport is expiring March 1. I am waiting for OATH schedule for natuaralization.

I am not sure how long this will take. How long does it take for renewal under normal processing in Washington DC ? I am confused whether to apply or wait.

Bottomline I am not ready to be with expired passport not even for a single day.

Hi All, I recently submitted renewal of my passport through CKGS, I received a email saying that application is on hold due to incomplete document. It’s mentioned in the email that documents should be send through shipping only. This is the message Documents by Post:
Documents should be sent by Shipping only. Documents sent by any other mode will not be accepted. Log in to ‘My Account’ https://passport.in.ckgs.us/myaccount/ on the CKGS website to purchase shipping and print your Shipping label.

Does any faces this situation and also how to purchase shipping and get label to send incomplete documents. I don’t find any info in my account.

Please advise.

Hi guys If you are currently in process of renewing your Indian passport here is Timeline based on my experience.
Save money and apply yourself its the easiest process and everything is understanding on CKGS. Indian consulate need your original expired or expiring passport. Proof of legal status(Green Card/EAD/NOA/Visa) except B1/b2 . Address proof if you need US address on passport (Drivers license/stateID/Lease/utility bill) etc.

My Indian passport was damaged in the rain ~3 weeks ago. I followed the instructions on the CKGS website and submitted all documents via FedEx on December 3. My application was processed and verified at CKGS and sent to the Indian Consulate on December 4.

I did not hear back for 10 days, and since I had to fly back home, I called the Indian Consulate's emergency phone number: 415-683-6629, which connects directly to the Consular Officer, Mr. Yusuf Jamal. He was very understanding and extremely efficient. I had called him on the Friday, 13th of December and he said the my passport will be issued the following Monday and that I should get my passport that Wednesday.

I am so thankful that he kept his word - I received my passport on time like he said and now thanks to him, I can fly out as planned.

I am in the process of renewing my indian passport as it is going to expire next year. All documents are prepared as per checklist available under 'My account' after submitting the 'CKGS' application online.

I have also requested to add the spouse's name on my passport. Do I need to provide 'Notarized' copies of below documents as well?
1. Marriage certificate
2. Spouse's Passport copy

Appreciate your help. Please suggest.

Hi, has anyone experienced reissuing their damaged passports with CKGS SFO? My passport is in the Indian Consulate in SF now and has been since last Wednesday — how long does it take for them to issue a new passport? It says average processing time: 4 weeks, but I was wondering if it takes a lot less than that.

I applied for passport renewal with Tatkal at SFO. My experience is that there is lots of old info out there. I had seen pages where it said that tatkaal process needed approval from consulate. I had called CGKS and they said no approval was needed. They charge for the call per minute but your first 5 minutes are free.

I first filled out the form on CGKS site. I followed their instructions PDF which said go make account on Govt passport site and fill in application there. This seems contradictory to what is said on the following post (which says don't make new account) https://www.immihelp.com/experience/438901-Renewal-of-Passport-Change-of-Address-India-Address-Change-of-Appearance-%E2%80%93-Consulate-of-India-SF.html. However, I followed instructions on the PDF and that worked fine.

My prior passports were issued in the US but at different consulates. I asked CGKS by e-mail if old passports were needed to be sent; they said no and asked for first and last pages to be sent. I sent more pages than they asked, which had important information like notes on previous passport cancellation, ECNR, etc. The rules on number of pages seem designed for new passports. Old passports had very different configuration on where info was listed.

Website asked for payment receipt to be sent. However, only option on site was for cashier's check. So, I had that made at Wells Fargo. No payment receipt was therefore on site. I asked CKGS over e-mail and they asked for payment order to be included.

Did notary with UPS. They charge $10 per notary stamp. FedEX did not do notarization.

Sent Aadhar card. Old passport did not have District listed in address. Address didn't really change though.

Old passport didn't have State written for birthplace (Delhi was not a state). So, was confused about whether that mattered or not.

Day 1: Sent Passport after 3pm.
Day 2: Passport received at CGKS. Application went through verification check and sent to Consulate on the same day.
Day 3: No updates. Passport at Consulate.
Day 4-5: Weekend
Day 6: Passport issued and at CGKS (in the evening).
Day 7: Passport picked up by FedEX (sat there for all day!)

So, the Consulate processed it in 2 business days per tatkal specification. Then it's traveling time between locations.
