Iam posting my experience here so that it might help others applying at Atlanta consulate.
I got my OCI and renunciation in 35 calendar days from the day it was mailed.
For my minor child it was approved in 28 days and took another couple of days to get the OCI in hand.

I Just want to thank CKGS, and others who helped us along the way.

Also wanted to add the info below and encourage others.

Though my Spouses OCI took longer and had a bumps on the road, we got his OCI in 32 days after it showed up as processing on the government website.

The process overall was smooth, once we got the Apostille issue sorted[Which took three weeks].

Apostille is easy, for Texas we downloaded the form#2102 from the website " office of the secretary of state", Costed us $15 plus mailing
Filled it, put our credit card number and send the Birth certificate and used regular mail.
For return we used tracking mail, we send a preaddressed envelope with our package with the tracking, and send it all together.
You really don't need to use the expensive services out there, that cost over $100 or so, you can do it your self.

My OCI was a breeze, and got it in 17 days.

Hope this experience helps others.

On April 12th 2019 Govt website showed OCI under process for one month, and we kept checking on and off, last I checked was on May 12th, and the status was the same, finally gave up that it will come when it has to.

Then on May 14th 2019, we get an email from CKGS with the FedEx tracking number that its on its way.
Today is May 15th 2019, OCI in our hand.

What we learnt from this experience that if your marriage certificate is from India you do not need it Apostilled, and only marriage certificate/Birth Certificate issued abroad has to be Apostilled for OCI, but because it was an OCI for Foreign born spouse the CKGS list automatically generates marriage certificate apostilled, and because its on the list they insist that you have to get it apostilled.

Some of the CKGS agents do not know that, I wish they knew, and we would not have had such a hard time.

Hope this helps another family that is doing OCI for foreign spouse.

Finally there is some update on the government website. it is looks like the OCI is received at D.C embassy on 13th May. do any of you know how much time it takes from here on to ship the OCI? I have booked the flight tickets for 2nd week of June and I'm wondering should I apply for e-visa or wait for OCI. any valuable comment is much appreciated. Thanks.

I was going to share a chronology of my experience but it literally mimics the nice, detailed summation by dino33 (see below) so I'm going to skip the full details of the status/progress timeline. I'll simply affirm here that my experience with the OCI application - I'm a native born US citizen so no precursor renunciation step for me - was similarly quick and much faster than expected. I'm impressed by the seamlessness: no hitches, no glitches... as long as you follow the instructions (which admittedly seem onerous but doable if you just go step by step).

I completed my application on 4/10/19. Express mailed my documents via UPS to CKGS in NY the next day, the US passport was returned literally 2 working days later on 4/15/19. The OCI approval in Delhi took the longest elapsed time - 24 calendar days or 17 business days - they "acknowledged" it on 4/13/19 when the clock starts and they were done processing and approving it by 5/7/19. The printing and mailing steps were super fast from there.... got my OCI in hand today 5/10/19.

Although the standard promise/disclaimer on turnaround time on the GOI website (https://ociservices.gov.in/welcome) is 60 business days, the CKGS website implies a much faster aka 25-35 business day turnaround for NY folks (https://www.in.ckgs.us/faq/oci/processing-time-as-per-categories/1058/what-is-the-processing-time-for-a-new-oci-card#1058). I think NY in particular might have the ability to print and physically produce the cards locally as the final steps were lightning fast and the document is issued/signed by the folks at CGINY.

Bottom line: from first online app/web token to OCI card in hand was just 30 calendar days, 22 business days!

Thanks CKGS and CGINY (and MEA Delhi) - pleasantly surprised.

Hello,

I am applying for my 2 year old son's oci card. Do I need to self attest all the documents that I am sending to ckgs? It is not mentioned in the document checklist.
Thanks.

I got my new OCI card in 15 business days (1 calendar month.) I am posting my experiences here in the hope it is helpful to others. Note that YMMV (your mileage may vary) and please consult the CKGS website for processing times etc.

I called CKGS before applying. They were very helpful and knowledgeable. Per their advice (NYC consulate) I first applied for Renunciation Certificate (RC) and then for OCI. RC is required for OCI application so - in NYC at least - it is not possible to apply together. RC took 3 days and OCI card took 15 business days. The whole thing was done in about 1 month. Very fast. (Note that in other consulates eg DC or SFO you may be able to apply for RC+OCI together - but the processing time is much longer 45-60 business days / 2-3 calendar months. I am also told that DC consulate is doing some computer upgrades so they are slower.)

The main thing is to review the CKGS website thoroughly and present all documents in the order provided in the checklist. CKGS office in NYC is efficient - provided you are well prepared. (Some people were waiting in line but did not have all the doc/s or had other errors in their forms or photos etc - and they got delayed.)

The other insight I got from CKGS officers in NYC was that it goes faster if everything is matching and in order. They said that in many cases there are differences eg name or address or other things across the applications or websites (eg "Arun Rajendranath" is now "Arun R Nath" in the US - esp after US Naturalization.) Such changes are not a problem in themselves - the applicant has to just make sure they are handled properly and written properly in the RC / OCI applications.

Timeline (all dates below in 2019)

Part 1: Renunciation
--------------------
3/29 - Filled online application and got appointment for (Tue) 4/2 in NYC CKGS
4/2 - Application "received" and "verified" and later "complete"
4/3 - Application "Under Process", "Reviewed" and "In Transit"
4/4 - Renunciation Certificate "Received" at CKGS, at "Sorting Facility"
4/4 - Renunciation Certificate picked up by UPS
4/5 330PM - Delivered Renunciation Certificate + Old Indian Passport at home
NB - Old Indian Passport now has a new stamp "cancelled due to holder becoming a foreign citizen".

Part 2: OCI Card
--------------------
-- STATUS on CKGS Website
4/10 - Provided my documents incl US Passport - in person at CKGS counter NYC
4/10 - Application "Received" and "Verified", later "Under Process" at CKGS
4/10 - Application "In Transit" to Consulate
4/11 - Application "Under Process" at Consulate
4/11 - Passport "Reviewed" and "In Transit to CKGS", later Picked up by UPS
4/12 930AM - US Passport delivered at home
NB - US Passport was returned in 2 days which was important because I was due to travel to Europe in April.

5/6 - OCI Card "Received" at CKGS and at "Sorting Facility"
5/7 11AM: - OCI Card delivered at home

-- STATUS on Indian Govt Website for OCI
Date of Acknowledgement 4/12
Docs Printing Status PROCESSED 5/2/19
Dispatched from MEA(OCI) Delhi 5/2/19
Docs Received at NY CGI on 5/2/19

I am applying for my 2 year son's oci card. I am a civil engineer, however I do not see any option for engineer in the drop down list in the father's profession field. Should I choose 'others'? Thanks a lot for your help.
