PIO card validity after 31st March 2019
As you all already know that handwritten/Machine readable PIO card is getting discontinued after 31st March 2019. My daughter(minor) is currently in India and have Handwritten PIO card issued in 2013 and valid upto 2018. Due to family emergency we could not convert PIO to OCI earlier and now the deadline is 31st March 2019 (15 days from now). She would need probably exit permit when leaving to the USA from India sometime in May 2019.

Would someone suggest what are the options considering the situation? What will happen when PIO gets discontinued after 31st March 19, would they allow to board the flight to the USA? Are there any issues getting an exit permit?

Thanks.

Why to apply for OCI in lieu of PIO
Giving PIO valid for lifetime now, I do not see a single reason why to apply for OCI in lieu of PIO for my daughter. And unfortunately OCI is bringing new process of renewing OCI along with passport renewal.

PIO Card attached to UK passport. Now on US passport. Still valid?
My PIO card was attached to my UK passport. I finally became a naturalized US citizen in 2015. Is my PIO card still valid for travel? (My UK passport expired in 2015).

My in the process of converting it to OCI, but the CKGS website says it takes 10-12 weeks. I need to urgently travel to India to visit my Mom.

Thanks!

OCI in lieu of PIO or Fresh OCI
Can some one help me with this ..

My daughter had PIO associated with her old US passport. Now she got new US passport and PIO card (associated with her old US passport) has expired. Now I have to apply for her OCI.

Do I apply for a "fresh OCI" or do I click "OCI in lieu of PIO " . Any email address/contact number to ask this.

Does any one have similar experience?

Thanks
Manju

Processing time for PIO to OCI conversion?
Hello,
I have applied online for my wife for conversion of PIO to OCI in the 1st week of December. I have been trying to check status via "Status Enquiry" section of http://passport.gov.in/ website. But it says "No Record Found". I have submitted online all the documents needed and also I have received a File number, but the record doesn't show up.

Does anyone know how much does it usually take to get the conversion from PIO to OCI.
Also, is there a contact number to call their office and check? I have browsed through the website but there are no customer service number available.

Thanks!

OCI in lieu of PIO extended to June 30 2017
Great news for all of us who haven't gotten a chance to extend yet. OCI in lieu of PIO has been extended to June 30 2017. There was a tweet response from today that confirmed the same.

Question on travel to India on PIO card
Hi everyone.

I have a question about traveling to India with valid PIO card. My kids have valid US passports. They have valid PIO cards as well. I have not yet converted their PIO cards to OCI cards.

Can you please let me know if my kids can travel to India (and come back) with valid US passports and valid PIO cards (they plan to return to the US in Jan 2017)?

Also, can you please let me know if the conversion to OCI card is mandatory?

Thanks for your time.

PIO to OCI conversion is pending, We need to travel to India on Nov 4th - Travel requirements?
Just wanted to check if anyone has experienced similar kind of situation.

My daughter is a US citizen and has a USA passport. She has a PIO card and has date of expiry of Jun 06th 2027.
Her earlier passport expired and she got a new US passport. In the PIO card, the earlier US passport number is mentioned.

We are planning to visit India next month on November 4th. Our Port of Entry will be Kolkata.

I applied for PIO to OCI conversion back in June 2016. It’s been almost 4 months and I have not received the OCI card yet.

My question and concern is that if in case OCI Card doesn't arrive before our travel which is on Nov 4th, 2016, what are her options to travel to India?

1. Can she travel with Existing PIO with her new passport unendorsed along with Old Passport. I will also carry the Payment Receipt of OCI Card Application.
2. Or She has to apply for Indian Visa?
3. Or Is there any option for “Entry Visa upon Arrival” for US citizen? Her stay is in India will be only for 3 weeks.

I have seen many posts on the internet saying that it is OK to travel, if new passport number is not endorsed on PIO Card, if that person carries New and Old passports both, along with current PIO card and proof of OCI card application (Payment Receipt).
Is there a link to a Indian Government website stating the same? Is this rule still true in her case?
I want to back this fact with some written or recorded manner in case needed.

Please let me know, if anyone has any experience.

OCI IN LIEU of PIO MINOR (New York)
I am so confused with the "Match up process" for OCI in lieu of PIO for minor in the CKGS website and the Indian consulate at New York. In the CKGS website, they clearly state the steps in the match up process in which a separate email will be sent to the applicant after which you have to send your original US passport and PIO card. But the applications steps for New York asks you to send the original passport and PIO card. I have sent the originals as they have asked and my daughter's application is in process right now as of 10/06/16. In the CKGS website, they never mention anywhere about the match up process being different for New York. Does anyone know if the original US passport and PIO card for my daughter is going to be retained for 2 months with them or will they send it back soon?

Thank you
