My Experience (Good)
I have been using the money transfer to HSBC and it has been 3 yrs and I never had an issue. But I was using the Wire transfer which was free initially from my bank and later it was charging $20. But I think it is worth it as it takes 6-8 hrs to show up in my HSBC acct in India.

FYI- The way it works is that HSBC has a acct in NY that would you need to wire the money to and provide Indian acct details and it will be creditted on the same day.

Option 2) If you dont want to spend even that $20 for the wire transfer is to open a acct with Washington Mutual. They are offering FREE Domestic and International Wire transfers. YES it is FREE. I opened an acct just few days back so I need to still send some money and check the service.

Ive sent money via ICICI, Citibank, IDBI, remit2india and what not.. but Im happy with HSBC as I am getting good exchange rates. It is usually todays dollor rate on the net minus 0.6 or so which is far better than other banks.

Quickremit HDFC Bank offers the Best Exchange Rates
I have been remitting through HDFC Bank Quickremit, for a while now.

They offer excellent exchange rates, better than remit2india and ICICI Bank's money2india. I have been remitting money since past 2 years. in the last few months, their rates have really been superior compared to Timesofmoney and Money2india.

Hi Sir/Madam,
I had transfered $9999 in the month of March 2006 and Again i transfered $2007 in April 2006. For both the Transfers the extra money + difference in conversion were messed up. And when i talk to one of the representative they said the balance amount will be credited back to benificiery account. Its been 4 weeks now talking to 4 representatives, telling same thing over and again that this weekend it will be credited. Last time i spoke to Sanjay and Today to Pritam. Sanjay said last week it will be done and Pritam says this weekend. Ok let me try this week and if its not happening then i will be intimating this fraud transfer to my US Bank and let them credit back my $$$ and take necessary action. Please make sure it will be credited this week.

Try SBI
I regularly send money to my parents and use SBI San Jose branch to do the transfer. All the information is available on their website at https://www.sbical.com. The staff is very friendly. The exchange rates are far better than Citibank.

I think Remit2India has one of the worst customer service in universe. No response over the phone, email or chat. My advise is to keep away yourself from this service

I lost my money with quickremit!!!
hi,
i am writing this in complete anguish, and days of sitting in front of my computer, waiting for a response from Mr Wilson Sakpal and his team....
I made a remittance with HDFC bank's quick remit (powered by times of money) 45 days back, transferred the money an the same day....and sat back and waited...and waited...and waited....
they claim i have not tranferred the money, and after i send them my bank statement, say they have forwarded it to some1 and are awaiting 'their' response. and while they do that they have stopped answering my mails....
All i do nowadays is wait for their mail.......
worse experience with money of my life...
NEVER USE THEIR SERVICE!!!!!!!!

i hope i get my £660 back....

remit2india - the worst server
Out of the three: remit2india, money2india and citibank remittance, I found money2india (ICICI) is better in the lot. Remit2india is basically cheating with blank promises. If you have lots to time to just keep calling them, use this server and pray to god that you will get what they promise.
