Parents got visitor visa at Chennai consulate
My parents had there interview on 23rd September at 2 PM in Chennai consulate. The interview was in English and my mother is not fluent in English. However, because of good preparation, she was able to follow the questions asked and answer them comfortably. Though they had to wait for a long time before the interview was held (at 4 PM), it was short and easy. Here are the questions asked:

Officer - Where are you going?
Father - We are going to **** ** in Kansas.

Officer - Oh really! I am from Kansas as well (appeared to be happy to hear Kansas)
How long will you stay?
Father - 3 months

Officer - What does your daughter and son-in-law do?
Father - Both of them are software engineers.

Officer - Which visa is your daughter on?
Father - H1

Officer - How long has your son-in-law been living in US?
Mother - 8 years

Officer - How long has your daughter been living in US?
Mother - Over 3 years.

Officer - What do you do?
Father - Retired

Officer - Which organization did you retire from?
Father - **** *** (name of organization)

Officer - What do you do?
Mother - I am a house wife.

Then the officer carefully saw all the documents sent by sponsor (my husband). Though both of us are working, we decided that my husband should sponsor as he had worked (8 years) for more number of years than me (1.5 years).

Officer - Please submit the DDs and your passports at the counter. Have a great trip! Enjoy!

Got Visitor/Business Visa Approved !
folks,

This is a great site. All visa seekers are
strongly recommended to study this site
carefully and thoroughly. The experiences here
will give you an insight in to how things are
being conducted.

Here are some tips :
1. Read the information sheet given with Visa
   appointment reciept carefully to avoid
   last minute problems.
2. Be confident of yourself.
3. Depending on situation try to imagine the
   different circumstances that will indicate
that you are a potential immigrant and prepare
convincing answers for all those questions.
For example if the case is that you have
travelled on a different visa before they
will think that you are trying to reenter
US, so now come up with all convincing
strong evidences that will prove that you
   dont intend to immigrate.
4. Please practice, practice, practice in front
of mirror or with help of another person
   the mock interviews.

Here is how mine went :
I got to embassy all prepared there was a que.
They called all non immigrant visas, they issued
pink token inside then i was called for interview

O : So whats your salary
O : why are you travelling to US ?
I said to meet VP and customers
O : what name of your customer
O : Show me invitation letter
    I showed
O : What does ur company do
O : Do you have any relatives in US
    I said Nobody
O : Whats your salary
O : Whats your designation

Thats it ! I was granted visa.

My in-laws visa got rejected 3rd time - please help.
Hi,
My in-laws who are 75 and 71 years old, appeared for visitor visa yesterday for the third time but got rejected on 214B. They used the interpreter service.

Following were question-answers

Why do you want to go to USA?
- to visit usa and also to meet my daughter and son-in-law

How long do you want to go?
- 3 months.

Who is going to support you?
- my son-in-law
- they provided the invitation letter from my wife to them.

how many children do you have?
- xx 1 in USA and rest in India and their occupations.

they returned the paper saying your documents are not in line with the us government!!!

I am really surprised. Won't they ask for the affidavit of support if that is what they were looking for.

Also, who is supposed to write an invitation letter, my wife or my self or both? Since she is working part time, affidavit of support was on my name whereas invitation letter was written by her. do you think, that is the problem?

My wife has last name different from mine and my in-law's. Do I have to provide any additional documents?

Please help!!!

Can we change the Interview Language?
Hi All,

I have a question, my parents are having a visa (Tourist) interview schedule in december 2005. I booked it in English, now I want to change it to Telugu, is it possible to do? If yes, how can I go ahead with that. Is there a provision at the Consulate where they can change?

Please help me with your suggestions.

Thanks in Advance,
Dinesh
