N-400 Interview at USCIS Field Office San Jose.
Hello All,

Approved for Naturalization and received my Oath Ceremony letter the same day. My timeline (at the USCIS FO San Jose):
Applied - September 6, 2023 (3 year rule)
Biometrics - Reused
Interview Scheduled - Jan 25, 2024
Naturalization Interview - February 29, 2024
Oath Scheduled - March 15, 2024

Civic questions:
1. What are the two rights only available to Citizens?
2. What is the Supreme Law of the Land?
3. How many Amendments are there in the Constitution?
4. Who is the next in line for the President in case the current President and the Vice-President are incapacitated?
5. Who is the current Vice President?
6. Who is the Governor of California?
7. Who is the father of the United States?

Reading: Who lives in the White House?
Writing: The President lives in the White House.

After the usual questions, I was asked If had any questions and any changes to be made to the N-400 application. Once I answered in the negative, I was asked if I would take the Oath of Allegiance and I answered yes. I was given a letter stating "Your application was recommended for approval." In about 30 minutes when I got into work, I got an online notification stating my Oath Ceremony has been scheduled at the San Jose FO. Overall a very smooth, straightforward process and no extra documents or proofs asked during the interview. Good luck to everyone for their speedy Naturalization !!!

-Oath scheduled for 22 march 2024
NYC

After swearing

The IO asked the passport, green card and driver license

I took only one passport with me, (the valid one) she was asking me for ALL passports even the expired ones.. I told her I wasn’t aware of that.
She asked me if I have expired passport at home I told her yes.

Reading: When is Columbus Day?
Writing: Columbus Day is in October.

Civic questions:
Question: 1. What is the name of the President now?
2. what is a capital of the state?
3. Who is charge of executive branch?
4. If president no longer serve who became president?
5. What do we show loyalty to when we say pledge allegiance?
6. What are 2 rights in the declaration of independence?

Asking questions from the N-400 form

She asked if I wanted to change my name, then I said can I ask you a question she said yes, I asked if they are doing oath ceremony today she said no.

I did a name change just to remove my ex- husband’s last name.

I did traveled after I submitted the application so I told her and made the adjustments.

I signed my signature to the changes made.

Ohhhhh she wasn’t so friendly she kept the interview professional, and that’s okay.

She gave a letter I passed test but decision was not made.

Anyways not longer after the interview Oath ceremony was scheduled..

Guys sorry for the long message.

Study the civics test on YouTube
I downloaded app name citizenship now.. the app helps a lot.
Apps shows the reading and writing test as well.

My oath ceremony is scheduled at the court. .

Blessings or good luck 😉

Anxiety level is hitting the roof . please help : Required Evidence VS Additional Evidence
Hello,

I am planning on applying for N400, marriage based. We are still married.

I know the required evidence will be GC and our Marriage certificate which I will attach to my N400 application of course.
In the additional evidence, they are also asking for spouse's previous marriage end document (Divorce decree)

My question is, do I have to attach it , since it is only additional, or not? Spouse can't seem to find it. it is a frustrating situation. please help I m anxious. any input will help us think better lol.

What if we don t find it? will that affect my N400?

Class B misdemeanor ( Theft by deception ) - Re-entry into US after traveling abroad
Hello Everyone!!! Has anyone here that had a misdemeanor class B that traveled abroad and returned to US? Any issues at immigration upon returning? Someone close to me was convicted, no jail time, just a fine and community service. Please share if you have any input at all. This fella has been in the country for almost 20 years, got his green card in 2018 and then this false charge and conviction...This is really killing him. Never had absolutely trouble with the law until this. In my opinion he was targeted because he was an immigrant.Again any help would be appreciated!!! Thank you

N400 Denied, HELP!!!!
Nov 2017: Filed a concurrent filing
Oct 2018: Initial interview was canceled
Nov 2019: Interview was conducted
June 2020: Green card was approved
Mar 2023: Applied for naturalization
Sept 2023: Interview was conducted
Feb 2024: Case was denied due to the Interview USCIS conducted for my sponsor in April 2021(no idea of this at all) at time of applying for AOS, and he denied ever knowing me and my spouse.

At this point we are so confused and don't know what to do. The letter says we can request for hearing within 30 days, definitely at this point, we need a lawyer. (Seriously looking for one that can handle this for us, pls provide recommendations).

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? What steps did you take if any? What should I prepare for? Any insight from this community will be greatly appreciated.

Journey to citizenship
Wished to share my experience for those who might benefit. This is a long and arduous process but it will work out eventually.

Jun-2011: Entered USA on L1B as Indian citizen.
2013: L1B status extended on re-entry (till passport expiry date; could have been full 3 years).
2013: Applied for GC (EB2)
2014: Switched to H1B (picked up in H1B lottery).
2014: I-140 approved with Dec-2013 priority date.
2014: Started dating my future spouse.
Jan-2020: Applied for GC via marriage to US Citizen.
Feb-2020: EAD issued.
Sep-2020: Received conditional GC (delayed due to pandemic).
Jul-2022: Applied to have conditions removed on GC; received I-797s extending status first by 2 years and then by 4 years.
Jul-2023: Applied to naturalize.
Dec-2023: Completed interview.
Jan-2024: Oath ceremony, naturalized as a US citizen.

Have since applied and received US Passport, update state Driver License, registered to vote.
Have also received surrender certificate and in process of applying for OCI.

My timelines were certainly accelerated due to becoming married to a US citizen. But I have friends who are on a similar timeline; they were able to downgrade from EB2 to EB3 and obtained EAD + GC; now waiting to qualify for naturalization.

It was quite vexing and stressful pre-GC. I frequently considered emigrating to Canada / Europe or even returning to India. Very relieved post GC.

For those in this journey, do not give up hope.

N-400 Application for Naturalization- Submitted on August 7, 2023

Done with Interview: Passed Citizenship Test but box checked as: "Decision cannot be made yet about your application."
Interview Was Scheduled January 8, 2024
We are actively reviewing your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization. Our records showed nothing is outstanding at this time. September 19, 2023
We received your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, and sent you a receipt notice. August 7, 2023

As you guys can see, my I-751 was stuck since March 2019!!!!
Looked like my file was one of many sitting on a pile after covid. No asking for more evidence, no contact, no nothing!
Enough was enough so I decided to file for Citizenship and have a combo interview.
The officer who interviewed me for my N400 interview said that she was gonna go ahead and remove the condition.
She didn't ask for my spouse but he came with me to my interview anyway.
She then proceeded to the citizenship Interview. The process went smooth, and she wasn't a talkative person at all.
At the end she said that she would have to take my file to her supervisor to approve my application.
She told me to go take a picture so they can use it on my naturalization certificate.
I know it hasn't been a week yet from my interview, but they haven't updated anything yet online.
Shouldn't they send me at least my 10 year green card since they had to approve the I-751 first before proceeding to the N400 interview?
I wouldn't mind waiting on my citizenship if they would grant me at least my green card since I have no idea how long it will take for them to send me the Oath Ceremony date information?

Agh!!! This whole process is driving me nuts!!
I don't think is fair to have waited so long and not even being granted my green card?
Should I just wait or contact immigration? I have no idea on what to do in this case...
Anyone in a similar situation or any advice that could help me get a peace of mind? :/

Thank you in advance :)
And good luck everyone on you guys journey!

5yr Green Card - Michigan
Hi everyone,

I have been a silent reader of this forum and thought it would be useful to share my timelines
My citizenship application was based on a 5 year Green Card timeline, and based out of Michigan

Nov 16 2023 - Submitted N400
Nov 16 2023 - Biometric reuse
Dec 15 2023 - Interview scheduled for Jan 23 2024
Jan 23 2024 - Attended Interview. Confirmed name change at interview
Jan 23 2024 - We scheduled you for an oath ceremony on Feb 8 2024
Feb 8 2024 - Attended Oath Ceremony
Feb 8 2024 - Certificate Of Naturalization, and name change petition was issued
Feb 8 2024 - Applied for US Passport at local post office

Reading Question: Which state has the most population?
Writing Question: California has the most population.
Civics questions
1) What is the rule of law?
2) What is one right only for US citizens?
3) What is one promise you make when you become a US citizen?
4) What major event happened on September 11, 2001, in the United States?
5) Who signs bills to become laws?
6) If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

I submitted the N400 application within the 90 day early application window, and also requested a name change in the N400. I had a very pleasant experience attending the interview from the minute I stepped into the USCIS office in Detroit. Security greeted me very warmly and wished me the best for the interview. After security, I proceed to registration which. was easy and painless. I barely waited 5 mins before my name was called by the officer for the interview. The officer warmly greeted me at the door and asked about my drive. It a mix of rain and freezing rain that morning, so I proceed to explain my early departure and slow drive to the USCIS office. After taking the oath, the officer proceeded to ask me the reading, writing, and civics questions. All throughout the interview, I felt at ease as the officer made the entire interview feel like a conversation. While the interview felt informal, the officer was very thorough in going over every detail of my N400 application. At the end of the interview the officer said I passed, and printed out a sheet of paper indicating my application is recommended for approval, and that I would be informed about the oath ceremony in about 2-3 weeks. About an hour after leaving the USCIS office, and arriving home, I checked the USCIS portal, and to my surprise I saw the notice of the oath ceremony, scheduled 2.5 weeks later at the Eastern District of Michigan Courthouse in Detroit.

Knowing the passport application would take some time, I scheduled the passport application appointment ahead of time on the day of the oath ceremony. So right after the ceremony, and receiving the Certification of Naturalization and petition for name change, I went to my local USPS to submit the passport application. While the passport application needed the original Certificate of Naturalization, USPS returned the original Name Change petition document back to me, only keeping a photocopy for the application. Here's hoping I can get my new passport quickly.
