Visa got rejected second time
My Mom went for visa today and got rejected for the second time upon hearing the word that she is a divorcee. We genuinely want to get her here only for the purpose of tourism. First time we tried 2 and half years back and now we tried. Visa issuing office wasn' courteous. We had tamil translator. Both of them were ladies and didn't treat my mom well. Did anybody has the same experience..
Any kind of suggestion would do.

My in laws got the visa ! I think ...
Thanks a lot to immihelp for all the help I received from the site. This site has more than enough info for the visa stuff.

Interview was scheduled at 10:30am on Jan-20-2005. My FIL is a retired teacher and my MIL is a house wife. They own a house and have 3 daughters. 2 of them are married. Eldest is married and lives in india. Yougest is studying in india. We speak Kannada and they had a translator which they did not have to use much during interview. I was the sponsor for both my in-laws.

Here is how the interview went

As soon as they were called, both my in-laws greeted the officer at the counter with a 'good morning' and the officer smiled at them.

Q1:Where does your son-in-law work ?
Ans: 'He works for xyx company in new york'

Q2:How many children do you have ?
Ans: 'Three daughters. Eldest is married and yougest is the dependent unmarried daughter studying in india.' ( being an english teacher, my FIL was good in communicating with the officer )

Q3:Show me the sponsor docs.
My MIL gave them all the docs I had sent as listed on this website. I had a cover letter to indicate the order of documents. I had also used postit to label each stapled document.

Q4:Officer went through bank letter, employment letter and my home deed (I own a home in NY). Officer displayed the colored green card copy of my wife to my FIL and asked 'Is this your daughter' ?
Ans: Yes.

5:Officer then looked at my passport copies. I had made color copies of the first and last few pages of my old and new poassport. Officer compared the two copies and cracked some joke, which my in laws did not understand. They just smiled. Officer then asked a single word question 'son' ?
Ans: My FIL said 'No, its my son-in-law'. Officer then corrected himself. Officer said something to the translator, dont know what he said. After that the translator asked them to pay the fees. Both my in-laws thanked the officer.

They took the finger prints of both my in-laws during the interview itself.

During the entire interview they did not say that they were granted the visa. My in-laws and I are _assuming_ that they got the visa because they were made to pay the fees and were told that they would get their passports in 3 days.

Good luck to you all.

Parents got Visitors visa
My Parents got Visitors visa from Chennai consulate on Jan 20th. I had filled their D-156 form online. I had requested for a Kannada translator for them. Their appointment was at 9.30 a.m and they were let in at 8.30 a.m. They had to wait till 11 a.m for interview because i guess they had kannada translator. They were asked the following questions:
1) Who is in US?
   Son-in-law.
2) what is he doing there?
   Computer Programmer.
3) Where do you work?
   I have my own business.
4) What Business?
   XYZ.
Thats it. He didnt ask for any of the papers we had sent. He was very friendly and told them they got visa and asked to pay the DD. Thanks to Immihelp for providing all the information that we needed to get my parents visitors visa. :)
All the Best to everyone seeking visa to USA. Immihelp is the best site.

Parents got their Visitors visa for 10 years
Hi,
My parents got their visitors visa on 19th january at chennai. They had a telugu translator.

First at the gate their web appointment letter and passports were checked and let them in.Then in first counter they verified the passports and took 2 DD's (For RS.441 and Rs.4600).In the next counter they took the passports and DS-156 forms. Then they gave a token for the interview.
Their ds-156 forms and passports were given back to them before they went to consulate officer. When their turn came for interview they submitted the ds-156 forms and passports to the officer.
Then they have been asked the following questions::::

1.What is the purpose of your visit?
A.for tourism and to visit daughter and son-in- law.
2.How many children do u have?
A.2
3.where does your other daughter stay?
A.in India.
4.what is the duration of your trip?
A.2 months.

Then the officer said that they got their visa. They did not check a single document. They did not even see the I-134 form or any documents we have sent from here.
Then they paid the other DD and gave their finger prints. They got their passports in the mail on next day.

I wish all the best for others who r going for Visa interview.I hope everybody has a pleasant experience at the consulate.

Chinnari.

rejection of visitor visa
I had applied for a visitor visa from Taiwan where I work as a Post Doc with the sole purpose of visiting her for a Holiday . I was rejected the visa saying that I had insufficient ties with the country of my residence . Will I be rejected in future incase of application for J1 or H1 visas? Anybody with similar experiences?

rejection of my mother's visitor's visa
my mother applied for her visitor's visa on the 19 th of january 2005. her visa got turned down for no reason. i really hope somebody who has any feelings whatsoever and who is in authority is reading this...because it really hurts with all the money and the hope that you pin on getting a visa to come and see your only daughter.
i wish the counselor back in india could know that his or her unexplained and erratic behaviour cause tears and grief beyond words. i really want them to read this and understand that its not about the money and the country...its about love and relationships...its about family ties and bonds... which perhaps they will never feel.

Mother- In- Law got her visa in first attempt
My Mother-In-Law went for tourist visa interview on Jan 19th 2005 at Chennai Consulate. She had interview at 9.30 and she went at 8'o clock itself. They allowed everyone inside by 8.30 am.We opted for Tamil translator. She was called within 1/2hr and the officer asked her the following questions:
1.Where and why are you going to US?
2.Where is your son working in US ?
3.When did ur son first entered US?
4.How many children do you have?
5.How many children do u have in India?
6.what are the places that u visited in ur last trip?
7.what did u see in chicago in ur last trip?

After she answered all these questions, the translator said, the passport will be couriered to you. Please pay the money and go.
I think since she answered confidently she got her visa.None of the documents was seen. We had sent all the documents. But he didn't ask a single thing from it. Only her visa application was taken.
Thanks for everyone and the information on this website. It helped us greatly.
