L1B and L2 approved
Hi All,

Finally I have also got a chance to share my experience of a successful L1b interview.

My interview had been fairly easy, and since I had been with my wife and Kid, we did not have to stand in any queues. we were guided very quickly through the queues to the visa officer. the Visa officer was amazingly cool guy, and had a smiling face.

I greeted the VO, and he greeted back.
I handed over the files to him, and he immediately recognised my company from the Name on the file. He knew what we did so it was easy.

VO: Why are you going to the US.
Me: I will be developing a gaming product with specialized company based tools.

HE: Oh Gaming product like the slot machines.
Me: Not exactly the slot machine, but the other display on the slot machines blah blah

HE: when were u married?
me: Date

HE: to my wife, So you didnt join your husband on H4? ( I had a H1 which I had not travelled on it yet)
Wife: (Wasnt expecting this question) we had a baby and so was difficult to travel so decided to stay in iNdia.

he looked at my petition, and by then my son had started making a lot of noise and started shouting.
the VO looked to my son, and said "hey hold on, i will let u go home soon, we are almost done".

then he typed something on the computer, signed the I129s

He said, we are done here, You will get your visas in a weeks time to your office.

we said thank you and left.
Thanks every one for sharing your experiences, it was very helpful

L1A/L2 Visa Approved !!!
It's all the the Grace of the Lord, Amen.

Appreciate all the candidate’s who have helped applicants like us by posting their experience and thank’s a ton to the site moderator and their team...

I appeared for L1A visa along with my wife, no questions asked to my wife not even saw our marriage album or certificate may be because we traveled earlier on B1.

VO: What company are you working for?
ME: XYZ

VO: How long you been working for this Company?
ME: 3yrs 6 Months

VO: How long in India? (related to question 2)
ME: All of it 3yrs 6 Months

VO: You seemed to have tralved on B1 Earlier and stayed beyond the allowed period, what were you doing for so long?
ME: Yes, I had to extend our stay because of extended client meetings, pesentations and
submissions of proposal. (Please carry your B1 Extension approval or any other documents to prove your stay legal)

VO: Please show me your I129?
ME; Sure, here it is please

ME: Here is the letter from my Company.
VO: That’s ok.

VO: Your visa is approved will courier it in week’s time.
WE: Thank you, have a great day...

Tips
Clear Communication and to the point is must, explain what ever you can in your own comfortable statements..

While standing in the line I was observing applicants at the other counters. Guys please be professional, when you don’t understand any question, politely request the officer to repeat it again instead of asking "WHAT". Don’t have a attitude of “Its my right to Have the Visa”

I was so disappointed to see our so called IT professional appearing for Visa Interviews were dressed in casual shirt/T-Shirts not tucked, as if they were just going out on some weekend trip with friends, Guys International exposure is your chance to take your career to next level, Don’t screw it up. The way you present yourself definitely matters a lot.

Request

Another heartbreaking thing was aged parents specially mothers applying for dependant visa's has to accompanied by someone or should be requested translators in the language they are comfortable with. I was able to hear the VO asking do you want to go to USA, this poor women was unable to understand what the VO was asking and just kept saying "3 months I will return back" in broken English for every question the VO was asking and I felt so sorry to see their faces down when their Visas were not approved.

L1B blanket + L2 + BEP approved on 16th April
Friends,
Thanks a ton for all the information. My interview went really smooth and I consider this forum to be the main reason for that. I was prepared based on the questions posted here.

Suggestion 1 :: Please go only 15 minutes before reporting time and not 30 minutes like most of us do. Chennai is insanely hot and you would be sweating profusely. Going early does not help since security guard lets in only based on reporting time.

This is how it happened in the interview
(Bit detailed on answer to be more useful than blah blah)

I wanted to wish the officer but was busy separating my BEP folder from rest

VO : how are you doing
me : good, how about you sir
VO : Good, Documents please
VO : How long have you been working for CCC
me : 3 years
VO : What will you do in U.S
me : I will be working on YYYY project. I will be designing and developing the backend of this. I will be owning the module which uses my specialized knowledge on YYY.
VO : Hmmm so what does your project do.
Me : I was prepared to explain my project in layman terms and make it sound cool.
VO : (seemed impressed) How long have you been on this project
me : Its a new project but I have done similar work in my previous projects.
VO : ok
VO : how much are you paid in US
me : $$$K
VO : have you read this (and pointed to a file on this desk )
me : NO (Saw that the documents was about my rights as employee. Was feeling strongly positive by then)
VO : Your employer should have given you this
me : (wrong answer :( ) They gave me a lot of documents and I would have missed this
VO : please read this. It talks about your rights in US etc etc
VO to my wife : When did you get married
wife : A year back
VO : Sir place your index finger and madam place your index finger.
VO : Sir your visa has been approved and madam your visa has been approved.
We : Thank you

Note :: Not a single document was asked.
I am still providing a check list of all documents which we thought were necessary

obvious

passport
I129S
I797
visa fee
Fraud detection fee
Appointment letter
confirmation letter

other

1) Letter from employer explaining your roles, your experience and skills and how they match and how you qualify for specialized knowledge
2) New US Offer letter
3) old offer letter and relieving letters from previous companies
4) IT returns
5) bank statements
6) resume
7) Form 10K of the company
8) website print out
9) pay slips
10) marriage certificate
11) marriage photos and invitation card
12) Letter from (my) employer for my wife.

Anddd these are the questions I had prepared for

1)Roles and responsibilities/ what will you do in US
2) What is your specialization (have a different answer from above)
3) Tell me about your project
4) Why you
5) Why cant any one else in your company learn and do this (different from above)

Other than this, be clear about durations like years of experience in a company, project and over all.

Best of luck to all the applications
Have a blast

L1-B got stamped on April 14th-2010
Hi Friends...
My L1-B got approved today.
I would like to share some of my Experience .

My Time was 8.15 in the morning.I reached the place on time completed all the basic formalities.

I was entering the danger zone by 8:30, was waiting in the hall for my slot.

Finally the call for the 8:15 batch happened.I stood in the queue waiting for my turn nervously.

I went to a counter where a male VO was questioning people.

I gave him the documents, he was taking a look and after few secounds, questions started raining from him,
1.How long with the company & this project? (Separate Questions)
2:Who was your previous employer & how long with them? (Separate Questions

3: Who is your client? This was not a straight forward question, he asked me like what was the last project that you worked for?

4:What is your current role?-I told him I design Business Intelligence solutions for my client. Also I maintain the application which I create.

5: What is your specialized skill?-Told him abt the project experience and the components that I created in my project.

6:How many people in the team?
  5 People at offshore.

7: Why you among the 5?
I been in the project right from the first day.

8: He stopped me- you being in project from the start are the only thing?-For this I told him abt my exp in the project compared to other assocaites.

9: How many Components you created?

Finally I was thru, and was happy listening to the words that you visa is approved.

It was a good experience, I was refused the same L1-B visa last year, so I prepared my self very hard for this big day.

Suggestions:

1:Do not use the word "We", it should always be I.

2:If you don't understand the question ,instead of assuming please ask the visa officer to repeat the question.

3:Do some mock up session before you go for the PA.

Thanks to this site and to the people who contribute their experience , this is really helpful.

I know how it will be if your visa gets rejected , so please do some extra work before going for your PA.

The consular's are really good, they will defientely wil not reject your visa with out a reason.

All the best!!

L1 Blanket approved on 13th
Hi friends,

First, I would like to express my Thanks to immihelp and all those who have posted their experiences. It gave me a good idea of what it is all about.

Me: Good Morning Sir. (with a smile)
VO: I apologize that mike is not working... Please excuse (Mike was not working)
Me: Not a problem Sir.
VO: Can you please give your folder.
Me: Sure (Given the folder) ...Mike was alright by this time :)...
Typing something in computer for around a minute.
VO: Where will you be placed in US?
Me: Initially i will be working in YYYY location (My company location) and will be moving to my client location on need basis.
VO: Which is your client location?
Me: YYY
VO: Please give me your justification letter..
Me: Sure (Gave the justification letter)
VO: (After going through it for few seconds... ) This says that you will be working from client location and supervised by your company's manager... Which is true.. ? (I saw a bit of annoyance on his face)..
Me: (Bit Nervous)... Both are true Sir... Initially I will be working in my company's location and moving to client location on need basis and will be supervised by my company's Manager...
He was back to his smiling face :) and i felt bit relieved,,,
VO: Fine... This says (justification letter) you have worked on so many projects? What is the specialized knowledge you have?
Me: blah.. blah.. using YYYY tool.(Don't be too elaborate here. I said a one liner with clarity. But it should not be a very common thing that they hear everyday like 'development using Java' or a very generic sentence... Please add a particular specialization and express that in a simple sentence)
VO: Which company has developed that tool?
Me: AAAAAA and right now it's with BBBB
VO: oh.. Fine...(Typing something in his computer)
How many years you are working for this client?
Me: X yrs and Y months... ( Most of the time in my experience I am working for the same client in 4 years experience...)
VO: Not with the company... with this client..!
Me: Yes Sir... With this client I have X years and Y months...
VO: (Going through my Justification letter...) But this says something different... (I guess he has misunderstood, since I have worked in several projects for the same client)
Me: (Clarified..) I have worked in different projects for the same client. If you notice the client description section ot would be the same all those projects...
VO: Oh... (He looked calm)
Then a he asked a question which i didn't understand fully and gave an answer ..
VO: That was not the question..(with a smile).... typing something in his computer...
Me: (Bit nervous again!) Sorry sir.. Im sorry..( about to ask him to ask the question again)
VO: Thats Ok... You are fine... (Here I was pretty sure that I am through) Typing in his computer..
VO: Can you please place your Thumb on the reader..
Done
VO: Thank you.
Then he sighed the I-129S forms... and said 'I have approved your Visa... Please handle one copy of this form to your HR and retain one with you'.
Me: (With a Bright smile:).... )Thank you Sir... Have a nice day...

VO was very polite and smiling.. It depends on your luck to get the right counter.. Other than that, what i feel the criteria is
1) Your experience (Above 4 years you have a great chance of getting it through)
2) Years you have worked for the same client and for the particular project..
3) Whatever you say for the 'Specialization' (This question may come as a direct question or in any form like ' What are you going to do in US' or 'Why you have got selected' or 'Why someone there cannot do it'...)
And whatever you are going to say may construct or destruct the impression which you have got by the previous points.

This is based on whatever i have observed, all the major questions will be around the question No.3 ...Please prepare for all the possible questions that can be asked from the answer which you are going to give.

Other than that, Please have a smile on your face and try to be cool (or at least act like that..:)) Smile helps a lot for this :)

L1B got approved - April 13 2010
First of all thanks for everyone sharing ur experiences. It helped me a lot. After completing the usual procedures am made to sit in the chair before the counters. From the previous shared blogs, many have mentioned about the fat lady who was there to only reject the visas.I was praying God not to go to the counter where the fat lady is.But my fate, am asked to stand before that old lady's counter. Before me 2 people were standing. One got rejected and other one got approved.I just prayed God and was maintaining a pleasant smile throughout.

I had my chance to go
me: Hello mam,Good Morning. How are you?
VO: Good Morning.Give me ur docs.
Me: Yes mam.(I gave the documents)
VO: place ur right hand thumb
Me: did the same
VO: checked my docs.So u r getting xxxxx salary PerAnnum
Me: yes mam.
VO: Who is ur client?
Me: told
VO: What you will be working in U.s?
Me: I will be implementing the integration module for the project A and B.i continued.. Said its the crucial piece and i need to work with my onsite team to complete the integration and so and so.
Vo: So what u will be doing in this integration module?
Me: explained her abt the module in a single line.
VO: How long u have been working in this project?
Me: More than a year and have been working in this technology for more than 3 years
VO: Finally typed something in the system
Signed the I129s docs and uttered the three words..Your visa approved. And will get it to my mailing address.
Me: Thanks a lot mam! Have a nice day

Please be confident and cool. Never mind whatever happens around. Give a pleasant smile. thats it. And give ur answers confidently. The VO just wants to know whether we are answering them truly and we need to prove that we are really required to work on the project.
Good luck every one.
