I am really thankful to this website just like everyone else !! It really prepared me for the interview mentally even though it was not so tough..
My questions were -
1. Who is the client u r working for?
A: XX
2. What do you do for this client?
A: explained about our project scope
3. So you're going to develop this application?
A: Yes
4: What does the application do?
A: Explained the high level functionality of the application (in layman terms)
Requested my right thumb to be placed on the scanner.
VO: Your visa is approved and will receive the passport in a week :)
Me: Thank you. Have a nice day !!
Pretty hot day in Chennai but am the happiest !!
Note: For chennai ppl, the system seems to be changed that B1 and L1 Indiv are interviewed easily by one person in the first building.. but the blanket, h1 and b2 ppl seem to be taken to the second building to give special treatment i guess !
I got my L1 visa stamped on 18th March. Just wanted to ask when to expect my passport back. The consular said 1 week. What about other guys with L1 visa, did it take full 1 week or you got it earlier than that?
L1 Blanket- already rejected - going again to PA - help please....
Hi,
Urgent Help needed. And answering me, will sure help lots of other people, in my stage. Thanks in advance.
I have done B.E instrumentation at 2005, and working in a software company in chennai for last 4 years and 6 months.
Two years back, I got rejected at PA for L1B Blanket.
The questions asked was Client name? Role? Years of exp? Education?
And rejected. I guess it's rejected, because of having 2.5 years of exp, and non-computer education. I dint asked any reason for rejection at that time.
Now, next week, I am again going to PA for same L1B Blanket, for same company, for same client. But only advantage is, I have 4.5 years of exp.
And this time, I don't want to be get kicked out.. So please help me.... Please...
And the question I fear are....
1. Specialization - for this I need to tell about specialized knowledge I have, that belongs to my company(ex: my company's technology, tools, etc)
For this I can tell about my company's tools I use.. But in many cases, VO is rejecting it, saying Tools are not specialized knowledge.
Frankly, I don't have any other idea to answer this quesion. If you have answered any other thing, that is accepted, or having any other idea, please tell me....
2. What did u do for this client in offshore?
For this, Should I tell the number of implemntations i have done, or else, is it enough to tell analysis, design, development, etc.
3. Duties at offshore and onsite - for this I need to tell the difference between duties at offshore and onsite. And I need to be prepared for next questions like why these duties cannot be performed at offshore itself.
To my fate, I have to do the same thing at offshore and onsite. I don't know what to tell...
If you could give me some examples...it would be much much helpful to me....
4. Education: for this i have to tell my edcuation...and I guess it won't be a problem now, because I have 4.5 yrs of exp..but still not sure..how I am going to tackle this question... any ideas please.........
5. For questions like "what r u gonna do in US?"
Should I answer like " I do analysis, design, programming, testing and implementation"
or else like " I will work on ODF data integration project for my client?"
Which answer from above will be best? and why?
6. For questions like "what is your role?" and " what is you responsilbities?" and "what are your duties?"
Do I need to have different answers if all the above are asked?
I mean..what is the different b/w roles, responsilbities, duties ,etc.
Yes, I know it's long question, but if you can shower one or two ideas, it would be much helpful for me..thank you....
Today I went for the visa interview. My L1 Individual got stamped. These are the questions they asked.
1. Who is your employer?
2. Who is your client?
3. How long you are working in this organization?
4. How long you are working for the current client?
5. What you are going to do in US?
6.Are you going to program in Java or .NET technologies?
By God's grace my L1 B got approved today. Thanks to all who shared their experience in this Wonderful site!!
Here are my questions?
VO: How are you?
Me: fine..How about you?(little bit tensed)
VO: fine..so who is your client?
ME: blah blah..(Name of the client alone)
VO: For what project?
Me: blah blah.(project name alone)
VO: What is your project about?
Me: Explained in two lines
VO: (Stopped while explaining abt my pjt after hearing my words keenly)How long you are working on this project?
Me: 3 yrs
VO: How long you are working for your company?
Me: Same 3 yrs..I have been worknig for this client since I joined this company.(At this time he started signing)
VO: Your visa is approved.Have a good day..
Me: Thank you!!Have a great day ahead..(with a broad smile on my face)
75% on luck and 25% on what you say..
All the best to everyone who are going to attend!!
Thanks to all for putting up their experiences - it really helped. Following was my experience from my interview today morning.I was blessed to come before one of the VOs who looked very pleasant and friendly and throughout the process he was smiling.
Me: Hi, Good Morning
VO: Good morning
Looks through my papers and passes some from the file which are my copies. Types something into computer. Asks me to scan index finger.
VO: So which client will you be working for?
Me: XYZ
VO: So what are you going to do there?
Me: My answer (for those who mentioned requirement gathering was not considered- I did mention it but I also mentioned more tasks which I would be doing in addition)
VO: What is the application name and what is it about?
Me: ABC and it's a client appln.
VO: So how many months with XYZ client?
Me: Answer
VO: So why are they sending you instead of someone from U.S?
Me: Explained about my experience and knowledge on appln.
VO: How many with the same knowledge?
Me: Number (only few people there)
VO: So who will you be reporting to?
Me: Answer
VO: Where will you be working?
Me: Company location
Overall - it seemed that he was observing me a lot as I answered probably to judge if I was genuine.
Observations from few rejections I witnessed, seemed some questions like work location (for l1 should not be client location) were not answered properly, then some who seemed to explain a lot when questioned.
So prepare well (this site mentions all the questions I got 95%), and attend. Put 100% from your side and rest up to God, so pray and keep calm. I found myself getting nervous when waiting and forgetting the answers I planned to say, so I took deep breaths and stopped thinking about what i would say. ALso, talking slow and clear helps as this gave me time to think my answers before saying it out loud.
Will keep this very short.. all questions were same as previously asked..
the only thing i would like to stress upon is a nice formal shirt and trousers with a tie and company i-card.. this would make a lot of difference as the VO's are themselves wearing tie and thus would obviously expect the same amount of professionalism from applicants too. In the entire 2+ hours spend at the consulate i could hardly find more than 10 applicants with tie.
So if you can stand out and impress the visa is yours.
I attended the interview in Chennai on 16th March with my wife and kid.
I suggest that you reach the consulate entrance only about 30 minutes prior to the time on the interview appointment. Otherwise you will have to wait in scorching sun for a long time. Don't worry if you are at the end of the queue. You can always tell the security personnel that your interview time is approaching and they will let you in.
And lastly, it does not look like there is any luck factor here. If you are 100% genuine for the visa category, chances are that you will most probably get the visa.
Since I had my baby with me, the processing was extremely fast for me. They did not make me wait in any queue and gave me preference.
About the interview:
Q. Who is your client?
Ans: I work in a product company and hence I do not have a client. I will be working for my company itself.
Q. What will you be doing in US?
Ans: I will be building a new *** product using my companies proprietary frameworks X and Y
Q. Frameworks?
Ans: Yes. My company have specialized frameworks to build this kind of products
Q: How long have you been working on this project?
And: This is going to be a new project.
Q: How much experience do you have in these technologies?
Ans: 5 year in X and 3 years in Y
he glanced through my companies BEP covering letter and stopped at my current salary figure.
Q: Can you show me your recent pay slips
Ans: Here they are
It took only 1 to 2 minutes.
He said 'You visas are approved and you will get your passports my courier'. He handed two copies of the petition after stamping.
The entire process took less than half an hour for me.
My advice is to stress on the specialized knowledge you have on your companies technology/processes/products etc. If you are working in a services company and going to work for a client's project, make sure that you stress on your companies technology rather than the client's.
