Successful Stamping at Mumbai - H1B
Thanks to all the applicants who have posted their experiences on this site. It really helped me to prepare for the interview and was a valuable source of Information.

My interview was scheduled on May 8th at 9.00 AM. I reached the Consulate by 7.30 AM and there was a small queue outside and they were allowing candidates only 15 min before their interview time, so had to wait till 8.45 AM to join the queue to get inside the COnsulate. Once inside went through the mandatory Security Check and they handed me a Wooden Token. Then went to the counter where we need to collect the documents which we had submitted to VFS and they gave me a Pink Token with a Number printed on it. This number will be called out for us to go to the VO counter. After than went through the finger printing process and waited for my number to be called out. It was almost a wait of about 30 min before my number was called out along with others to go to counter number 8. I joined the line at counter 8 and waited for my turn.

This is the transcipt of the discussion with the VO.

Me : Good morning.
VO : Good Morning.

VO : So u will be going to YYYY ( State ) in USA.
Me : Yes

VO : What will u be doing there.
Me : I have taken this job at YYYY company and will be working on YYYY platform.

VO : How did u come to know of this job.
Me : I was referred by my friend from my professional circle.

VO : Can u explain me about this.
Me : I have a friend Mr.ZZZ working at YYYY company at USA and he referred me to this job.

VO : Tell me about ur present company.
Me : I am at present working at YYYY company on YYYY platform as Sr. Developer.

VO : I have not heard about this company. Can u give me a background.
Me : YYYY company is one of the biggest distributors in India and i am working in their YYYY department.

VO : Ok. Ur VISA is approved Sir. Wish u good luck in your assignment.
Me : Thank You Sir.

He then handed over my Petition papers and i asked him if those were for me and he said yes.

I wished him once again and left the counter.

I handed over the Wooden token to the security and left the building.

From my experience i would suggest to all VISA aspirants that they prepare themselves well before the interview and have all the documents ready. Speak confidently and maintain eye contact with the VO. The VO's do not understand much on the technologies so explain in simple terms on what ur working on. This will surely help.

All the best to all VISA aspirants.

My experience >> London Embassy
Dear all,

I have attended h1 visa interview in London today.

The visa officer is a cute, cool woman aged approx 25 i would say. She looked a little frustated for some reason.

She just asked me a few questions. Asked who i am gonna work for.How i found this job.. whether i will be working for comapany's clients or on an inhouse project..

when i answered that i am going to work for clients.. she asked me who i am going to work for.. I asked whether she wanted to see the client letter.she said that it was what she has been asking for. I submitted it and she went in for a few mins.. returned back and asked to wait in the main hall. called me againg after 15 mins.. this time she picked up the 221G form and asked me to provide "W2 forms for tax year 2005" from the employer. She also handed me over another form named "Visa issuance fee". She asked me to courier my passport, a new DS156 form with a new photo along woth original I797 form along woth the W2 form. Also siad that she doesnt anticipate me being called again and that my passport will be stamped if the required documents are sent.

This is my experience..

Let me add.. The visa date confirmation letter said.. my visa interview would be at 11.15. i was sent in at 11.45. we need to obtain a token. waited for an hour.. aqnd when my token was called, submitted all the documents initailly. that's not visa interview call. we will be asked to wait again .. after 3 hours i was called again. this time its the visa interview call. so be prepated to spend atleast 5 hours in the embassy.

good luck guys..

can some one pls advice me what happens when i send the w2 docs.. my employer will post them tomorrow morning..

regards.. ravi

Successful h1-b Stamping at Chennai
All.

Here is my freaky case. I got my papers approved last year & was waiting to finish all my personal commitments. I started looking for dates in May & got one in June. Quickly grabbed this, which itself looks like a Miracle now, coz the nearest dates available in chennai now are in November end.

Here is the transcript of my interview at chennai consulate. The officer was a lady about 45 yrs of age & my slot was at 3:15 (the interview took at 5:00pm though). There were about 8 cases rejected just before I was called, but then I was really confident.

Me: Good Afternoon, How are you doing Madam?

VO: I am doing good, are you having a good day?
Me: So far very nice (a crisp smile)

VO: What is the purpose of your trip to the US?
Me: I have got a job in the US

VO: What is your education qualification?
Me: XX Degree in XX Stream

VO: May I see your certificates?
Me: Sure, Here is my XX Degree

VO: Great, Can you show me one of your marksheets?
Me: Sure, Here is the consolidated one for my final Sem, would you like to see all of them?

VO: No Sir, I just need to see one Sir.
(Went through the marksheets)
VO: Great, Did you have any backlog?
Me: Yes,

VO: When?
Me: We had to take two semester papers in a single Sem (12 papers), which obviously wasnt too easy, I got one backlog & cleared it in the next Sem with a very good score.

VO: Yes Sir, I can see that, good comeback (with a smile) you are fully qualified for a VISA Sir.
Me: Thanks.

VO: You are all set sir, please pay the fee at counter 1.
Me: Thanks Madam & have a good day.

VO: You too, please take all your documents safe & have a wonderful trip to the US.

Fortunately or Unfortunately (I had prepared for a worst case scenario with so many documents), I had a client letter, offer letter and so many docs, she never even bothered to ask me any of this. Finally, its good to know that stamping was cake-walk.

Two things I made sure was

1) Exhibit confidence, not to pause / stammer & answer to the point very clearly.
2) Look at the interviewer in the eye & speak through the mic.,

Thanks for all the help, this site is awesome.
Good luck to all & I will be glad to help any of you on your queries.

Regards
Ramesh

Need your valuable advice.
Hi,

This is Towhidul Mannan from Bangladesh. I extremely need your valuable advice regarding
my H-1B Visa as described below:

I took my H-1B Visa Interview at the US Embassy, Dhaka, Bangladesh on 25th May, 2006.
The Visa Officer took all my H-1B related documents and issued me a 221(g) saying that
"I will review the documents and contact you when all is complete." And returned my passport having an “Application Received” seal on the last page.

After 17 days on June 11, 2006 Embassy again called me to contact with the consular section
on the next day. On June 12, 2006 - I went to the Embassy and the Consular Section returned
my documents and again gave me a new 221(g) asking for two more documents:
1) List of all current H1B holders for my US Employer with their salaries.
2) Last 2 years Income Taxes for the Company.
and advised me to submit the new documents along with the previous docs again in any Sunday.

I contacted with my US Employer and they confirmed me that they will provide me the required docs
within 3 weeks of time.

So,What are the chances of my getting the VISA.
Waiting eagerly for your valuable advice.

With regards
Towhidul Mannan
